Sardine & small fish bones aren't like the larger fishes: they're edible and crunch up with no issue.
It's not unlike eating a moist brownie with nuts in it: most of it is soft, but you have tiny bits of crunchiness.
I, personally, cannot stand sardine bones. If I cannot find boneless, I'll de-bone them myself.
Neither will I eat brownies with nut in them, so go figure. I will, however, eat brownies and nuts both by themselves.
Not related: sardines which are cooked in the can tend to be slimy & fall apart easily; whereas those which are cooked before canning are more firm. Personal preference, but if you want/need to debone your deenz, it can be easier if they're firm.
