It'd be awesome on the rare occasion I'd use it, but impractical to use all the time I'm sure. I'd rather just have a large griddle that covers a couple burners and can be reasonably cleaned in my sink desu.

Even if the fact that there's absolutely no reason for all the grease on the entire surface to run toward those holes wasn't an issue, letting the grease just drip through a hole in the surface and hoping it actually falls into a tiny tray instead of running along the underside is still a pretty shit design. If everything works perfectly, that thing will still fill up way too quickly and there's no good way to get it out to empty it without pouring hot grease everywhere. And that's assuming none of the grease dripping down directly into where the open flames are will catch fire.

I install appliances for a living, and I've seen more than once the bottom of an oven getting trashed just because the owner put some aluminium foil to protect it from getting dirty. Some (a lot of) companies manufacture appliances to the basic standard, so they don't have to make the enamel resist direct flame.

I have a counter-top plug-in grill if I ever cared to use one, and since I'm not running a deli restaurant, then I don't need one as big as in OP anyhow. That one seems way harder to clean, just from how big it is.

I own one of these, and bought one for my Mom from steelmadeusa.com
There seems to be some misconceptions and confusion about it in the thread so I'll share a bit about my experience. I have the "half size" one for two burners at home and I bought my Mom the full sized one because she would come over and use mine all the time. It has small holes and a catch basin for grease, you direct the excess fat there with your cooking utensils. I've never had to cook something with so much fat that I'd be worried about the basin over running with it or catching on fire.

As far as cleaning goes, it's simple. You don't need to take it out and hose it down like some anon said, you treat it like cast iron since you will be trying to season it. So depending on what you make you just wipe down, add some oil maybe some salt, heat it and then give it another wipe and put your cover on it if you like. When I'm going to use it I just preheat it, ad some oil and wipe it and it's ready to go. If it would get something nasty stuck on there, then maybe you'd have to remove it and scrub it down.

My only complains about it is the catch basin is a bit a pain to remove if the top is still hot.
I can't make a pan sauce directly on it, I have to deglaze and catch all that stuff in a plate from the basin and move it over to a pan.
Some high-heat cooking can get grease jumping and I'll have to use a domed lid to cover it so it doesn't get all over the kitchen.
Other than that I love it and use it daily. It's a lot simpler than having to wash multiple skillets and I like how the flavours of whatever I'm cooking meld together. I mostly make Mexican and Asian food and it's perfect for enchiladas placeras for example or a quick lower-fat stir-fry.

Unironically yes. I have a big family, three kids, my wife, myself, my youngest brother, and my mother in law. Making breakfast for everyone can be a pain, doing it out of pans. I own a diner and know for a fact that a flat top allows you to cook a bunch of eggs and bacon and hash browns at once, but idk why I never wind up getting one of these pans for my range at home. Might be because I don't do the big breakfast thing that often, most everyone is old enough to fix themselves some eggs or cereal before they go about their day.

it came included with a thing i do use
it also sucks in general
doesn't heat evenly at all
burners have to be on all the way low otherwise the shit directly under them burns and then there's cold spots all over.. this can be slightly mitigated by straddling it between burners but now you have a hot, heavy AND unbalanced hazard on your stovetop

I already have something better than that, fits perfectly on my shitty electric stove
it's also reversible, grill on the other side
and as you can see, it has an actual drip tray in the front

I am going to get one of these things

I have a cast iron griddle that I can put over the left 2 burners on my stove since they're the same output and will heat evenly. I pretty much only use it for baking stuff though since I got tired of grease dripping off of flat sheets. Line it with foil to catch the grease and you're g2g.

>> No.17194896

>>17194843
it's generic/unbranded from a local shop
look for 'reversible griddle' or just cast iron griddles, you'll find plenty of similar stuff
lodge makes several similar ones too

You guys are all bitching about it being hard to clean, I guess you've never cooked on one or worked in a restaurant. Its stupid easy to clean, even in place. Those holes right there at the front drip right into a catch pan that you can remove after cleaning and discard contents and replace. It's easier to clean that thing than a regular pan would be in most cases.

There's a reason they're only in restaurants retard. A pan is simpler and faster to use in every home case unless you have a giant fucking household you cook for every day.

i honestly considered it. i used to work in restaurants back when i was a poor and i really miss flat top cooking.

ultimately, it seems like it would be a pain in the ass to store. good ones (i.e. thic ones) weigh a fucking ton too.
so i just use giant cast irons.
