how do i get good at wine?

This, but actually. Try many different styles of wine so that you can notice the differences between them. You'll eventually discern levels of sweetness, types of grapes used, and which styles of bottle are ideal for cramming up my ass.

This.
But be careful. Good wines cost a lot. And after you got used to the good stuff you cant go back to drinking piss.

yep, need to do tastings with multiple wines at a time.

if you have friends you can probably convince one of them to cook and youll bring 2-4 bottles of wine, you can try what you like best with the food etc.

You could apply this line of thinking to any hobby, it's nonsense and expressing this opinion only outs someone as somebody who knows nothing and wants to feel superior in their ignorance. However, the fact that you want to get good at wine means you aren't one of those people.

We all start off ignorant and can only grow from there. Best way to get good at wine is to drink more of it and take notes. Grab a bottle and open it without reading anything about the wine. Write down your thoughts on the smell and taste then check some official reviews of it to see what experts think. You'll begin to learn the proper terminology over time, words like "stone fruit" or "slate" don't make sense until you can pair that vocab with what you've actually experienced. Keep doing this and you'll learn a lot. You'll eventually learn what styles you like, what you don't like, and you'll explore from there.

I highly recommend John Cleese's (yes, that John Cleese) "Wine for the Confused." Excellent non-pretentious introduction into wine for the every day person.

>What does it mean to be good at wine?
Is a more interesting question. How do YOU define "good at wine"? What's your end goal here? What do you want to be able to do?

Ohh man. This is great. I totally nailed your ignorant ass and it hit such a nerve that you got all defensive and made up some bullshit to attack me. Ctrl+F and the only instance of "viagra" is your post.

Most of my post was actually constructive and encouraging and yet you latched onto the part that made you feel inadequate. Instead of getting defensive you could grow from this and ask questions as OP is doing. There are a number of good posts here to help out anyone actually trying to learn: >>17149717 >>17149894 >>17149943 >>17151441

From Joodepedia:
>The 2018 Master Sommelier exam cheating scandal was disclosed in early October when the board of the Court of Master Sommeliers, Americas (CMSA) voted unanimously to suspend indefinitely the Master Sommelier credential awarded to all but one of an unprecedented 24 candidates who had passed its stringent annual membership exam a month previously at the Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis.[1] The decision was taken after the CMSA's board learned that one of its own members, Reggie Narito, had passed advance information about two of the six wines candidates had to identify during the blind tasting section, considered the most challenging of the three portions of the exam. Two of the successful candidates, to whom the information was known to have been passed (a third had failed), unsolicited, were barred from retaking the exam for three years. All the others were allowed to make up the exam in December at no charge; six passed. Narito was expelled from the organization[2]:4:38 and lost his Master Sommelier title.[3]

There’s also one from 2020 where male sommeliers were using their status as master wine men to ra*e a bunch of women in the wine industry.

Wine tastings. Me and my friends love going to them, tons of good wine and the curator will likely have a great selection. Its also a fun way to get smashed and pick up milf numbers.

Seriously though, there is alot of wine from alot of regions. Start out trying atleast every major variety of grape. Then start getting into countries of origin. I am currently really enjoying lebanese wines.

Incorrect. The one big name guy (Fred Dame) slapped women on the ass so he got cancelled.
Another oversaw the MS exams of 2 women he slept with. From what I remember from the article there was no rape but sexual assault and harassment that the CMS overlooked for years to where a lot of the wine industry has discredited the title.
Even then MW is a far better program and title that rewards theory and knowledge moreso then blind tasting autism.

Like most things, there's jargon invented by experts that's useful internally, and there are hucksters who use the jargon to sell shit to confused punters. "Strawberry" on the label doesn't literally mean it's got strawberries in it. As you try more wines you'll pick up what chemicals people were trying to describe with those common-name notes, and you'll narrow down what you enjoy. You get good at wine by having a general understanding of what you like, and how to find it.
