You trade or intimidate people for double or triple portions as well as having money on your books for commissary food. Or of you work in the kitchen you get to eat any extra food or trade any extra food. If you ever find yourself in prison I'd suggest trying to get a cook job in the kitchen. It's hard work but the time goes by quickly and you get access to alot more food than anybody else which not only puts you in a position to get swole but also to hookup/trade with other inmates.

The death penalty has always been a shit deterrant because at best you lower minor crime while increasing violent and more extreme forms of crime.
The death penalty at best should be used for truly unreedemable people. And even then there is always the dilemmia of innocents being sent to death row which is always inexcuseable.

Because more severe punishments do not lower the rate of commited crimes. Nobody checks the criminal code before they commit a crime to know if they get 5, 10 or 15 years of jailtime for doing something.

The only true reliable way to lower crime rates is increasing the rate at which perpetrators get detected and convicted. The more likely you are to get caught the less likely you are to attempt a crime.

Also, as much as people laugh at scandinavian countires for having jails that look like hotels - those countries generally have the lowest return to crime rates and they prove that you can return criminals to society and "fix them".

Because some time around the 1800s the moralist anglo puritans took over most world governments and now instead of just fining people for minor crimes and executing people for major ones like humans had done for millions of years we have to have this gay ascending stack of crime and punishment where you get put in a hole to "think about what you've done" for increasing periods of time like you're a child in time out and the government is your nanny. The same anglo puritans also rewrote the criminal codes so instead of there being like 10 capital crimes everything is a criminalized to the point that almost everyone is a criminal.

How are you sure that the hotel prisons are what caused low return to crime rates? There are so many possible variables involved, but you chose that? Sounds biased to me.

I chose that because of the reasearch I've read when preparing to write articles on this topic and talking with lawyers with years of experience in criminal law. I can recommend the book Penal Populism by John Pratt. It's available online for free and it discusses the topic in detail.

Yes it's a complicated matter but the idea of making punishment more severe to reduce crime rates have been debunked by people with knowledge and experience years ago.

I got out of prison last month, I'm from the UK and we actually kinda have it better than most in some ways regarding food. So the slop they serve at dinnertime is pretty nasty usually but because I'm in bongistan where drinking tea is basically considered a human right, we're each issued a kettle for our cell, these kettles have exposed heating elements at the bottom meaning you can cook your own meals in the cell. Also every week you can order stuff from a canteen sheet, plenty of junk food, instant ramen and shit like that but also canned tuna and fresh vegetables e.g tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, garlic and chillies. You could also get condiments like soy sauce and every ground spice and dried herb you could ever need. I very rarely ever ate the prison food towards the end, instead i cooked lots of fish and veggie curries and five bean chili and whatnot. Every Sunday we got a Roast chicken leg and I'd strip the meat and use the seasoning from a thai green curry pack of instant ramen and make a pretty decent green curry with it. Shit was cash and all my cellmates were cooklets so they loved me.
