17085180 No.17085180 [Reply] [Original]

Usually I hate Anime but since i loved cooking I gave it a shot. I was expecting some decent stuff and it was for awhile but then it went into retarded anime bullshit that I usually hate. Plus there was never any real teaching going on, I was hoping I could get an idea of what it would be like going to a culinary school but it was clear by episode 2 no school would run like this in life. Some of the recipes are fun though as I guess each one is real to a degree but after season 3 or something I was done.

What the fuck did you expect?
It had to have a story arc. There’s only so much “plot” you can derive from cooking.
That’s why the first few seasons were good and then it got weird as fuck.
>went into retarded anime bullshit
Almost like it’s an anime or something.
>never any real teaching
>I was hoping I could get an idea of what it would be like going to a culinary school
You expected realistic academic stuff from a battle shounen?

Keep in mind that cooking in anime, or food in anime is more like product placement/food porn for promoting tourism to different places in japan.
So you won't really learn technique, as much as learn what different dishes look like, and sometimes where certain ingredients are produced in Japan.

The show was actually pretty great, and absurdly comfy, though some of the recipes got condensed a little and they omitted some of Shirou's more autistic cooking tips for time constraint reasons. The show does a good job of showcasing things, with each episode featuring on a particular dish, but to get the full recipes you need to read the manga.

Cooking Master Boy (The original one form the 90s)
and Yakitate Japan
You'll actually learn some things from those two

>> No.17086242

+1 For Yakitate Japan. It's very informative about baking, at least until you get to the magic doughnut. And don't get me started on the final boss, you can really tell the author was out of ideas by that point and just phoning it in. The first ~22 episodes are still amazing though.
