What's the trick to getting a reasonable price for a local pizza joint? Are we just at the point where there's no way to spend under $20 for a reasonably sized pizza unless you order from a chain?

>> No.17084291

>>17084272
It's to price out the undesirables.

>> No.17084294

I ordered from a local pizza place last month, a large, four-topping pizza, half was eggplant, peppers and broccoli and the other was cheesesteak (so technically seven toppings). Cost $16.99, iirc. No special deal. Just ordered straight out of the menu. Was good, too, until I found a long, blond hair in it.

>> No.17084299

It comes down to what you value. There are 3-4 local chains near where I live, and every single one of them offers a far greater quality of a product than any chain. I'd rather pay $20 for an 18" specialty pizza with 6 or 8 toppings that tastes great than $10.99 for the chain 2-topping deal of the month with shitty sauce on cardboard.

A $3.50 frozen Red Baron tastes pretty damn close to whatever chain pizza you're going to get at a much better value.

literally NOBODY around here (chain or not chain) charges that much for a large pizza.

I can go to any non-chain pizzaria and get a large for like $16. Most of them just happen to suck though, so I choose to do chain pizzas.

Maybe you should look at the full menu to see if there's oferrings at a better price, or call to see if they have a coupon. Sometimes the full menus are only available on request for whatever reasons.

This is one of the better places near me, but not many people know about it. It's literally attached to a gas station, so it shouldn't be high tier, but it's $15 for a single 16 inch cheese pizza, and ridiculous if you want toppings. This is pretty much exactly what it's like for every local place here.

Just wild.

>> No.17084403

They don't let you start with any other base other than plain cheese pizza? I think you're full of shit. Literally any place will have several base types. Building a pizza "by the topping" will always be more expensive.

For me, it's just a matter of going to one of the places run by middle easterners. They sell tasty good size pizza for under 10€ a piece because they evade taxes, don't pay reasonable wages to their vulnerable employees etc.
You can even have them send that stuff to your house for free because the delivery people similarly get paid almost nothing.

Pic related was less than 10€ and yes, it was pretty big.

>> No.17084433

>>17084390
>>17084357
This spot does have all those topings, but they aren't listed on any menus outside of the shop.
There's tons of stuff, and meal combos that aren't listed anymore also.
The same shops 20 years ago used to spam neighborhoods with a mini booklet of everything they could sell, but all eventually started doing uncluttered basic menus now even though they still have everything available.

>> No.17084434

>>17084390

prices are a bit high, but still not much higher than other places. Isn't the stuff on there is supposed to be higher quality than the shit thrown on there at chain pizzas?. You should want it to be more expensive. I mean the fact that they're not a part of a chain makes it harder to compete I think so that's probably why they're charging more.

lol, just buy topping yourself and throw the shit on there at home.

inflation is a thing, but let's not pretend prices like this are going up a reasonable amount. capitalism is supposed to be about undercutting the other businesses in your area by providing a better product or better price, instead of all of the businesses raising prices in unison.

dough ingredients and cheese just really don't cost this much.

First up, red baron is closer to 5 bucks now, and the crust can't come close to the fluffy yet crispy texture chains have perfected. Chain pizza is insanely overpriced, but frozen pizza is a separate competition.

Learn some reading comprehension then try again. He's not saying the frozen pizza is as good as a quality pizza from a local place, he's saying it's about as good as what you'd get from a big chain that's cheap like Domino's or Pizza Hut or wherever.

Personally I still think he's wrong, as shitty as those places are fresh-baked is still better than frozen close to 100% of the time, but you gotta read gooder anon.
