Not OP, but I don't put my lips on my silverware but I don't bite it, either. I place my teeth around the food but not actually touching the fork, so when I slide the fork out the food stays in my mouth but my teeth don't scrape the metal and my lips don't get messy.

I just made a graphic of what I meant. I hold the sandwich resting in my palms and my thumbs on top, with the rounded end of the bread, if applicable, pounted outwards (left panel). I bend my arms, which flips the sandwich towards myself to take a bite so now my thumbs are on the underside (central panel) then un-bend my arms, reverting back to starting position (right panel). If it's a burger, the top bun starts out upwards but when I bend my arm to bite it, it's now downwards.
Does that make sense?
