I decided to get adventurous this morning and put some cloves and bits of cinnamon sticks in my coffee grounds for my chemex. Then I mixed the resulting concoction with a little egg nog and topped it off with some ground nutmeg. It was as delicious as you might expect. Very comfy.

I use a Lido ET but started with a ceramic nightmare. When paired with Aeropress, it's enough to make a nigga cry. It is so good with some single origin and freshly light roasted coffee. I am a barista too, and can confirm that with hand grinders it really doesn't matter after a certain point. I bought the lido ET for the speed and capacity but it's within the RANGE of all the other high end grinders. So don't worry my man, just get one with the ability to do filter and espresso and you'll be set till your house catches fire.

Yeah. I was thinking about those 1z espresso ones bc of speed reasons and price. I’ll check out the one you sent tho. Do you think i would need the nicer one (JX pro) for something like aeropress? The Amazon page says JX pro can do espresso and the JX can’t.

The old JX had 24 clicks and the newer basic JX models seem to have 30! So it should now be better for dialing in on espresso shots, but overall the JX Pro will be hands down easier to use with espresso since it is less sensitive when adjusting grind size (dialing in). And since it can do espresso, you'll definitely be able to use it with the Aeropress<3

Just remember though, the JX Pro only has 10 more clicks than the JX, which makes it a 40 click grinder. The J-Max and K line all have 90 clicks! So basically, the JX pro is like medium sized pop corn, it's there to tempt you into buying the jumbo.

The Aeropress is similar to the moka pot as in they're both sorta like a pseudo espresso, more extraction with less water. Neither normally go down the true espresso grind sizes so you won't have to worry about playing around with the smallest variables.

I've heard the best two coffee warmers are ember mugs and microwaves.

If I'm being honest, I fucking love thermoses. Doesn't matter what brand really as long as it's vacuumed sealed. I love the idea of preserving energy rather than introducing more. I have a $40USD Stanley, a cheap $14USD Zak! from Target, and a $12USD Bubba mug from Walmart which is also has a vacuum sealed aluminum body with a flat clear plastic lid which resembles your normal throw away coffee cup lid.

I have literally had two day old coffee from my Stanley and it still had a hint of warmth! I used to work at a hardware store before becoming a barista and I made my Stanley 4 cups x 6oz in the morning, and in the evening it would still be steaming even if it had just one cup left. The Zak lasts for around 7 hours but it's more light weight and geared towards commuting folks. And my Bubba is just for drinking whatever within the next few hours, though it lasts for probably about 5 with hot drinks.

Remember too, the vacuum can be used for good and EVIL! Hot and cold drinks, so remember anons it's all about options!

There's solid shit all over that 1-300 range. 1zpresso q2s are cheap commandante killers and people like them(hepta>penta burrs apparently). Bumping up another bill you're in kinu phoenix and j pro territory. Bump up another hundred you're in the nicer kinus(same burrs, better build) and 1zpressos with more features/adjustability. Timemore chesnut x is also worth looking at around 300. Commandante is great, but expensive, and only gets more expensive with accessories like redclix. Etzinger is launching two new handgrinders in december so you could preorder one of those for like $270. Basically buy anything ~200 thats not a lido.

Good evening, /ctg/. I hope you guys won't look down on me for this. My iCoffee Mozart just had a parts failure and, as the company went out of business years ago, needs replacing. I really liked the iCoffee -- it had a way of mimicking a French press, and I liked it's "dial-a-cup" feature that allowed you to make half-oz sizes. Can you recommend a new machine of similar quality? I remember I bought the iCoffee for about $80 dollars years ago, but I doubt I could get something as good as inexpensively. Couldn’t tell you about that but I get some pretty nice clean results from just filtering cold brew through a V60
Here’s my iced coffee recipe. I hope you guys don’t change a goddamn thing about it and I could give a flying shit about what you think:
Ingredients:
>A good coffee of your choice
>Cold water
RATIO: ONE PART COFFEE TO ~6-8 PARTS WATER BY WEIGHT
>That’s it (adding anything else to coldbrew causes autism, cancer, & GRIDS)

Grind your coffee and funnel it into an appropriate size jar. Add the water, give it a quick stir, pop a lid onto the jar and put it in the fridge for 12-16 hours.

Take that bitch out, filter it through a V60. Drink it.

>> No.17036033

>>17035979
you can make it very strong, even as much as a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio
since the extraction is cold, a lot of the bitter and undesirable flavors stay behind and the brewed coffee itself has a remarkably crisp flavor even if it is quite strong
anything beyond a 16 hour steep is overkill and some will say that’s when the undesirable flavors start to emerge
the beauty with very strong cold brew is that it can be diluted with water, ice cubes, milk, etc.
cold brew concentrate is also how they get the coffee flavor into coffee beers

I recently decided to stop giving money to the cancerous coffee chains and capsulejews and learn how to actually brew decent coffee.
Is a chemex a decent starting point, or is it a meme? I know I'll also need a coffee grinder, a pouring kettle and some good beans - am I missing anything here?

>> No.17043215

What's the best hand grinder I can get for around $100? I ordered a yama-glass vac pot and burner, so I want a finer grind to go with that. Yama-glass doesn't make grinders, so I'm looking at other brands. Timemore looks really good for the money, is there anything else I should consider in this price range? I would say that steel burrs is a must, I am not happy with the fineness and consistency of ceramic grinders.

I know it's a long shot since the good brand don't tend to do sales, but any good grinder deals going on worth looking at currently? I'm looking into replacing my piece of shit no name electric grinder that I've had for years and want to get something actually worthwhile. I pretty much just make pour over but was considering grabbing an aeropress or moka pot soon just to try something new. I saw the fellow ode on a pretty decent discount for $240 at the moment, I know it's a bit of a meme brand but anyone have one to say whether it's actually worth the money? Any better deals out there I've missed?

Not really interested in a manual grinder at the moment, I know an electric grinder sacrifices some price/quality to go to the motor and I'm fine with that since I know those responses are coming.

But the ode is a solid grinder and is on sale atm but I passed on it due to the consensus of it not grinding fine enough for some people's v60 technique. plus I generally grind finer for my aeropress than my v60 so.

supposedly they changed the burrs in the filtro and crono to be better suited for brewed coffee instead of espresso. Mine shipped from Seattle coffee gear and I might email them to confirm. I paid 250 on Amazon. But yeah the crono is basically a filtro but I didn't like the fact that you had to hold the button on the side to get it to grind all your beans so I shelled out an extra 50.
Haven't made coffee with it yet but you can tell it's much higher build quality than anything else in this price range.

>> No.17051587

Good info, yeah having to hold the button would be a pain in the ass. I don't understand why more of the cheaper grinders don't go the encore route of just having an on/off switch without a timer, though I guess the idea on the filtro is people will be waiting there for it to dose from a full hopper rather than single dosing.

I may bite the bullet on the crono, I do like the look of it and the general buzz on how it grinds.

Here is a single sentence from one of his books (translated):
>Now, if ends must first be given to us, in relation to which alone the concept of perfection (whether internal in ourselves or external in God) can be the determining ground of the will; and if an end as an object which must precede the determination of the will by a practical rule and contain the ground of the possibility of such a determination — hence as the matter of the will taken as its determining ground — is always empirical; then it can serve as the Epicurean principle of the doctrine of happiness but never as the pure rational principle of the doctrine of morals and of duty (so too, talents and their development only because they contribute to the advantages of life, or the will of God if agreement with it is taken as the object of the will without an antecedent practical principle independent of this idea, can become motives of the will only by means of the happiness we expect from them); from this it follows, first, that all the principles exhibited here are material; second, that they include all possible material principles; and, finally, the conclusion from this, that since material principles are quite unfit to be the supreme moral law (as has been proved), the formal practical principle of pure reason (in accordance with which the mere form of a possible giving of universal law through our maxims must constitute the supreme and immediate determining ground of the will) is the sole principle that can possibly be fit for categorical imperatives, that is, practical laws (which make actions duties), and in general for the principle of morality, whether in appraisals or in application to the human will in determining it.
