new New NEW, is only slightly more spicy/herbal than the regular Knob. distinctly peppery on the nose, almost like opened in big bag of peppered beef jerky with a little cinnamon and all spice. initial palate is molasses brownies and orange zest. mid palate has moderate amount of dill and dark chocolate. finish is medium "S"mooth with some alcohol taste and charred wood. not much as far as nutty flavors go so far, but the bottle has been open for a whole half hour. very sippable with no water. reminds me of Rittenhouse just if it were higher proof. the Knob is more black tea and Rittenhouse is more bready. added some water it amplified everything and added a smoked jalapeno note.

This is my first time in the general, but I want to throw something out there. About 4 years ago, I went on a trip around Ireland and while I was there I had a whiskey (pic related).

This is one of my favorite whiskeys. It's smooth, glides over your tongue smooth.

It's good with ice/water. I don't usually mix it, though an Old_Fashioned_Plus.drink would probably make it sparkle.

If I did, I'd do either a cherry-ish variation of an old fashioned with 2oz Writer's Tears, 3 dash Cherry Bitters and .5-1 oz maraschino liquor.

Or I'd do an orange variation with 2oz Writer's Tears, 3-4 dash orange bitters and .5-1oz Cointreau. Garnish with an orange peel, burn the spritz. (my favorite)

Why do so many of the american manufacturers make such a big deal of bonding or bottling in bond? How many people at retail are even aware of what that means or able to buy bonded? Unless I've got it wrong and bonded warehouses are really common? Here I instruct my wine dealer to purchase wine and store it bonded, as in free of duty and taxes until I'm ready to collect or take delivery. I pay a fee for storage. You might as well do so if you are buying wine in advance for selling further down the line, trading or just getting when it is ready so you've got the money for something else or you pass it on to somebody else when you sell or trade it. Like if I buy some 2020 pomerol en primeur today I'm not taking delivery until 2022 maybe 2023 and I'm not going to drink it until at least 2028 ideally 2030 and beyond depending on the quality of the vintage. all Heaven Hill stuff is thin and watery. makes the price very apparent. Four Rose's yellow is 40% but feels richer than any Evan Williams short of maybe the Single Barrel. Four Rose's is definitely in the realm of mild, like a tea. both in texture and flavor. a little more expensive than EW, but easily better for those looking out for something outside of low price and being able to pick it up from a gas station.

>>16933104
The white label Jim Beams taste horrible, it just burns like cleaning alcohol and has no flavor.
It's the same for all of those 10 bucks shovelware whiskeys. They aren't aged at all, it goes straight into the bottle. And they are indistinguishable from one another.

But it's fine if you are just going to use it in a mix with energy drink or whatever other bullshit kids use these days.

If you actually want to enjoy it then go for one aged for at least 8 years. Preferably aged in cherry barrels.
Scotch usually has more woody, smokey and earthy flavors. Burbon is usually more flowery and fruity. But it's not a definite rule.

Those usually cost at least 20-50 bucks. But some scam brands also sell stuff in the Jim Beam white label tier for that price. So don't get scammed. Look at reviews.

I've actually never tried the 86 proof OF, only the 115 proof 1920 prohibition style, which is very, very good. Personally, I still prefer OGD114 over the 1920 because OGD114 is almost as good as 1920, but it's also half the price (at my store) of the 1920.

As far as OF whiskies, the only ones that I remember being mentioned here, besides the 1920, is the 1910 and the birthday edition. The 1920 gets mentioned the most, but at least one person who posts here insists that the 1910 is better than the 1920.

And the only thing I remember hearing about the birthday edition is that you should do anything required to acquire a bottle, short of selling your soul to the devil.

Bookers. Tbh supermarket offers often beat them and some stuff is cheaper on amazon even. A litre of Tanqueray is £20 in morrisons right now for example, bookers has it for £19.78, but that is year round instead of on offer. I like buying booze at bookers because they have a lot of relatively unknown restaurant or pub only brands for shit that is otherwise quite expensive in supermarkets. Like supermarkets are getting their act together with tequila, but you can get don angel blanco or reposado for about £13.49 which is OK and 100% agave. Ouzo, different sambuca, fernet, amaro etc, the weird shit that you don't often get outside of specialist or high end retailers here where it is always overpriced is basically £10-12 a bottle at bookers. I quite often buy the jim beam as it is only ever as low as £14 on offer elsewhere and it is superior to the generic bourbons offered by supermarkets at about £14.79.

The tesco one is ... ok. The aldi one is ... ok. The lidi cheap one is ... ok. The slightly more expensive lidl 6yr is alright, but I think at £12.39 jim beam edges out all of them.
