Is this the peanut one? I can't eat that because I'm allergic to nuts. I do always have a jar of the chilli flakes in oil and the fermented beans in oil on hand though. Really helps to spice up any asian dish.

My guess is yes that's where it comes from, but I also find the one with peanuts in it (the most common one where I live) is even worse. the nuts are like little bitter bombs scattered throughout.

I've been getting the LKK brand for a couple years and it tastes fucking perfect. Salted, garlic, medium/mild spiciness. It tastes exactly how you want the other one to taste but doesn't. And it's also NOT loaded with MSG.

Make your own, deep fry diced onion until crisping (browned and holding shape enough that it starts to lift out of the oil), ladle the hot oil and onion mix over a bowl of chilli flakes, add 1% salt and msg by weight. You can add more stuff but that's the base.
