Any Texas bros here remember eating Lubys as a kid? It used to be so good, what happened? We religiously would go over Sunday and have to wait in huge lines to eat. Now only boomers go and the food is getting worse everytime I try it.

I actually was hurt when they announced bankruptcy.

I go to the Lubys in Conroe pretty regularly. Good stuff. Mac and cheese, fried fish, Blackened tilapia, and those yeast rolls. Man they have some pretty good stuff.

We had one at my local mall in Ark. Miss that place so much. Our last cafeteria place closed down due to Covid and it has been around for like 80 years. Shit sucks.

They got bought out by Pappa's, (owners of Pappadeaux's), but it isn't their fault really. Luby's was apparently barely financially solvent and they took cost cutting measures in general to keep a Texas icon alive, which is why stuff like the mac and cheese is not the same as it once was. In any case it just slowed the inevitable because (this is my opinion) cafeteria style service was just dated in the era of Chef-As-God-Emperor and californians drowning out alot of food culture with proscuitto tacos and duck breast mole infusion mexican sushi and other bullshit. Sad, because I fucking love cafeteria style service and luby's was an incredible place to get a very decent, good meal for a good price. I started going to Texas State about 2 years ago, graduated now, but I used to get a chicken fried steak on fridays or some fish with steamed vegetables and mashed potatoes. It was one of the few places to get a really decent, healthy meals.

There's good news though, the Pappas family used their own money to save quite a few locations from bankruptcy and really wants to keep them alive.

Although Chris Pappas is the CEO and president of Luby’s, the Pappas family does not own Luby’s or its sister restaurant, Fuddruckers. According to the SEC filing, Chris Pappas holds 18.43% of Luby’s shares; his brother, Harris Pappas, owns 17.86% of the shares. Chris Pappas is a member of the board of directors, but Harris Pappas is not.
