A cashier might, over an 8-hour shift, see at least 200-300 customers, if not double that. That's 1500-2100 customers a week, every week. People turn into a faceless stream of assholes and strangers. However, if you start to recognize someone in that stream, it can be very comforting. It grounds you. Cashiers are people too, you stupid faggot. They get lonely. They want to reach out and make connections to someone who might also recognize them. Not only that, but the things people buy tend to be pretty unique, even at faceless monolithic corporations. You might be the only customer that week who gets their tendies with two barbecues and insists on it every time. You might be the only person at starbucks who gets an iced coffee at around 4:15 every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. People pick up on those patterns and they start to recognize you. It's their job to ring you up, to start seeing you by their order.

They aren't being fake or disingenuous, this isn't some corporate mandate, it's literally basic human behavior and you retards can't even handle that. This is why you belong on the labor farm.
