What I remember about Chinese food as a young kid growing up in Hong Kong was not really that it was “bad” (which it often was, of course) but that the stuff my parents ordered for us was almost all frozen, and that I would generally throw out whatever that they brought home. This was in the days before a proper kitchen, and there was a tiny freezer unit that could only hold what was on the top shelf, and often that was some random combination of Chinese or Indian takeout. asian food is great but it greatly depends on the country of origin. For me - i dislike curry and indian stuff but love most of the things that chinese cuisine puts on the table. mostly the far east asian cuisine is the best for me. as for westernization - again depends on the country. just like any other cuisine. you can argue that westernized pizza is better than the original version or that real sushi is only served in japan, but it all boils down to the chef that makes it.

Well, if you eat it in America, and there isn't Chinese on the menu items, and you don't hear a lot of Chinese being spoken in the restaurant, and instead see a largely white clientele, you're just eating a western product designed for the western palate, with a hint of Asian cuisine.

Same with korean food there. My favorite ramen place is in Ikebukuro and Kannda, it's called "Kikanbo" and it's an extremely spicy miso ramen with these huge fatty chunks of pork. It's really cool, and always has a long line but not literal fucking garbage like Ichiran. What's funny is you'll hear everybody in that line speaking Korean, Thai, Mandarin, Cantonese because they can actually handle the spice and come out in droves for it lol

Do Asians really experience that? I grew up in a really podunk town in Florida, so redneck that most of us had already started chewing tobacco DURING CLASS by middle school, and this was even in the early 00's. Despite this, everyone liked Chinese food, sushi, the most hopping restaurant in town, besides the Applebee's, was a Korean place that did all of the "crazy" things that Koreans eat, excluding live octopus because I don't think that's legal in America. Shit, I was eating century eggs in high school, and I'm white as snow, mama only ever made hamburger helper and tuna noodle casserole. In an area where I saw kids get into fights every day for saying "nigger" to a black kid, I never saw the couple of Asian kids ever even get picked on, with the exception of a Chinese kid we called Jackie Chan, at first out of racism, and then a term of endearment when he beat the fuck out of some kid who pushed him too far. Maybe my experiences are limited, but I don't believe that Asian people have it that hard in this country.
