North Korea is actually pretty big on tourism, but you're stuck to a very strict regimen and rarely get a chance to try the local fare. If you're lucky and the tour guide likes you, you might get a chance to try an authentic delicacy, such as gasoline-baked clams.
Cooked over stones, these fresh clams are soaked with gasoline (usually siphoned from the tour vehicles) and ignited, with the attentive chef dousing them regularly to keep up the heat: an extravagant display of resources meant to impress guests.

They eat very strange food, I remember watching a video of a NK chef making some food for a special occasion and I just thought it was so bizarre looking. Modernization and capitalism changes food so much, South Korean food is so much more appetizing and profitable.

When in high school I took a culinary class in which we had to draw from a bowl randomly to see which country we had to cook a dish from and make a pamphlet about that country's cuisine. Of course I get fucking North Korea of all places and looking back I find it pretty hilarious.

Back then NK didn't have any YouTube propaganda shit so I literally had to make a South Korean dish and make up a bunch of bullshit that wasn't completely shitting on NK culinary cuisine.

I got a C.
