Couldn't I just buy regular soy sauce and water it down? Then I'd have 37% more less sodium soy sauce for the same price

yes it's a scam

No.
It's better value because you get more sauce and less salt.

I once picked up a bottle of low sodium soy sauce and it had the same sodium level just a smaller serving size.

But it's not watered down, it's made with less salt.

I don't understand these responses. Does your government not require manufacturers to tell you the nutritional value of their products? Serving size is a reference quantity for quickly comparing nutritional profiles.

If that quantity was lower, the company merely put regular soy sauce in the bottle and told people to eat less of it, and that was what made it low sodium.

>> No.16812118

>>16811461
I use full sodium for cooking, less sodium for pouring over something. Sodium is actually good for you, so health considerations don't go into my decision.

Europe doesn't allow products to use lower serving sizes on purpose to mislead people on the nutrition label. American manufacturers will use smaller serving sizes to drive down nutrition numbers so people who can't be fucked to do math or read pick them over competitors

Most people have a sodium deficiency actually. While there are conditions that you can develop where you need to watch your sodium, they're usually a result of other poor eating habits like sugars and overly processed foods.

Thanks for explaining, didn't realize elemental sodium came in sticks. So if you put a sodium stick in an unlucky chap's anus, it would react with the water and explode?

i only buy kikkoman less sodium sauce. am i being played? i think it tastes nice tho

>> No.16812454

Someone with both a low-sodium and regular version please test this. Take the regular one and add enough water until it's diluted to have equivalent salinity with the low-sodium one. Then taste side by side and determine if they taste the same.

Yeah, same with potassium, K and our teachers would put a bit of each in water so we would all see it pretty much blow up to make sure we wore goggles during class.

I guess it is a scout's honor type deal, because if they're doing it right, they'll be brewing it the same way but just adding 37% less salt. Apparently darker soy sauce is also less salty, which seems counter intuitive.
