got a free venison roast thats been in the freezer since 2019. how do i cook this that doesnt involve a crockpot?

Absolutely. Especially if it's a roast that will be slow cooked, or cooked for an extended period of time, like OP will want to do with this.

Onions. You definitely want onions with the venison.
