You must give up either potatoes or onions for life. Which do you go for?

there are a lot of starchy & fibrous root-vegetables that you could probably substitute for potatoes OP

Onions. Potatoes are God's gift to humanity. They are literal perfection. Just thinking about their rough outer layer and creamy center is making my mouth water and my dick hard.

Other than the meat and dairy I eat I’m a vegan . I need onions and mushrooms to make uninteresting vegetables more appetizing ( kale , fresh green beans , broccoli , brussel sprouts etc. ) . I like to cook them in batches to save time .

>> No.16788982

Onions would have to go. French fries, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, etc, I couldn't. Onions can be replaced with other doting's but potatoes? I'll slice your jugular if you attempt to stop me from eating the good ol' gift from mother nature.

I'm assuming that giving up onions also include shallots? If so then I give up potato easily, potato can be replaced with numerous other starchy root vegetables for most purposes. Onion is the foundation of so many good dishes I can't do without.

potatoes, it's not even that hard desu.
Without onions you can't make soffrito, something that makes every sauce more flavourful. You can of course substitute it with garlic but sometimes onions makes a difference
Also I can't cook acquacotta without onions

Potatoes are delicius but you can substitute it with any other starch for your diet, you have to give up a couple of recipe like mashed potatoes, hashbrowns and gnocchi but potatoes are not a base ingredient of pretty much any cuisine

Is that really the best you could think of? Potato's versatility as a starch is what makes it prized, it's why people dont tend to substitute it out

>> No.16793874

There are always substitutes when an ingredient goes missing. Both can be replaced, but at higher cost and inconvenience.
Potatoes are a staple for energy, onions are more of a flavoring or spice. From a pure survival point of view, the potato has more value. It can also be used to make vodka.
