Help me clear something up with the mrs, /ck/ - is a plate of chips (I guess that's 'thick-fries' to the burgers of the board) a meal?

no, you have to put them between bread to make it a meal.

>> No.16726691

It's not a substantial meal, but this really falls down on the particular definition of "meal" you use. "Meal" as in a full meal? "Meal" as in something you eat at a particular time (breakfast, tea, supper, etc.)?

By themselves? No. Grate some cheese over them? Yes.

>> No.16726793

No, it's a dish. A side dish if that. And a dish can be PART of a meal. But it is not a meal in and of itself.

>> No.16726806

Probably the same amount of calories, but no. If there's fish, sausages, steak, chicken, or any other protein source, then it's a meal. Chips alone are a side or table food for drunks to snack on while getting plastered before they go get a proper feed at the end of the night. For just chips to be a meal it's got to be a big plate.

Yeah it's an American board, so you really shouldn't be uppity about your gay translations. Just call them fries.

Ever since I took the mayopill I can't eat chips without mayonnaise anymore. I go to the chippy and instead of red sauce I put mayonnaise on it.

you can make them into a meal depending on how you top them but by themselves they are just a side. a big plate of chili cheese tots would be a meal or hash browns topped with stuff from waffle house, nacho fries would be one. there's something called a garbage plate that is usually home fries but it can be made with french fries
