beer up until the 20th century usually looked like that. Ancient beers even had bits of wheat floating on the top so they would usually consume the beverage from a large vase using straws

You calculate it based off how much fermentable sugar is present at the beginning and at the end of the fermentation. On the hobbyist level this is done by measuring the density of the liquid with a hydrometer or calibrated floaty thing.

Nice. Glad to hear it came out drinkable! If you enjoyed the process you can look into making extract beer with hops next. Totally doable if you have a big pot and a stove.

Basically you add malt syrup to 2 gallons of water then boil hops in it. Then add to 3-4 gallons cold water and pitch your yeast.

A bottler, bottles, and bottle caps are fairly inexpensive as well. Maybe 80-100 dollars for all supplies and 30-50 for a 5 gallon kit.

I recently bottled up 190 750ml bottles of 15% plum wine that I aged for 1 year in a used wine barrel. Price came out to like 1-2 dollars per bottle because I have a couple plum trees.

wow. That's fucking amazing.

I'll definitely try with hops, and boiling kek.I will make another batch and post here in the future, to let you know.

I'm very happy with the results though. First time, youtube tutorial and I'm drunk out of my mind with a nice taste lmao. See you

I'm sure sold them for $10+?

Although inexpensive money wise it takes many hours of work to harvest the plum trees and deal with 45 gallons of liquid. Probably something around 20 hours.

I'd like to sell them for like $12 individual and 120 for a case or something. I'm waiting another 2 years of aging in the bottle before digging in. The aging really imrpoves the flavor.

Honey takes a long ass time to fully ferment. Mead is pretty tasty if you can get good quality honey.

>> No.16701623

10-20 days then you want to age it for 3-6 months. I could have sworn the honey makes the ferment a lot slower, but it only doubles the time. I may have gotten it confused with clarifying which will take a few months.

yeah it yields a high abv apple cider pretty quickly, you can even ferment it straight in the juice containers. just wait a couple of weeks after it's done then it'll taste good

1:1:1 for a gallon of juice, a lb of sugar and a gram of yeast. you don't need to do anything special with it, average abv is around 15-17% but I had a couple of batches that reached 18%

Woah!
Perfect, thank you anon
I looked it up and I need a "rubber stopper and fermentation airlock", too, right? It wouldn't work if I just used the little plastic cap those jugs come with, right?

>> No.16701865

>>16701854
you don't need that if you ferment directly in the bottles, just unscrew the cap enough so that gas can get released but nothing can enter

There's going to be a lot of bad tasting yeast at the bottom of each bottle if you do this. You will have to pour off the bottle very carefully and completely or a lot of it will get mixed back into the liquid partly in chunks.
