As opposed to what?

>Cheaper whisky
An enjoyable flavor experience. Anything $60 and under should be drank with coke. There's a few decent options in the $70s, but once you hit $80 there's hundreds of good choices. You're also probably not going to see peat, sherry maturation, or ~15 year olds below 80 unless it's an attempt to disguise some really shit stuff.

>other booze
Price wise it's on par with 4 $20 craft six packs or 3 $25 bottles of wine for roughly the same amount of alcohol. Which is what you want to be spending for those anyway.
With beer the concern is lack of variety in the bottle shops. I literally moved to whisky after trying every available brand of beer (/cider/ginger beer/etc). Also thirst quenching isn't the goal, and is often an impediment.
The problem with wine is you have to drink the whole bottle in a day, and picking a good wine is harder than picking literally anything else.

>eating out
Cheaper for the same tier of flavor, shelf stable, available on demand.

Remind me again why people buy expensive booze.

I also picked up some kraken black spiced rum because the bottle looked cool and it was $12. I tried a sip and it's actually great. It's harsh but has a hint of vanilla and something else in it. When I finish my current cup of gin and shasta I'll try the rum with the soda and report back.

gin quality is contingent on what sort of flavors you prefer and at what proof, the cost of production is largely the same since it's minimally aged.

If I approach it with an open mind expecting something totally new it's not terrible, but it doesn't taste like a proper dry gin to me. The floral taste you mentioned is actually okay. I just don't like the extremely bitter aftertaste.

And I tried the spiced rum which is really good. It tastes exactly like vanilla coke with the slightly fermented flavor of cheap rum mixed in. It's almost unpleasant but still great at the same time.

I prefer Campari. Campari and soda is a great summer drink and the one and only time I cheated on my wife was facilitated by my ordering of a Campari and soda at a hotel bar. I was at a conference in another state and after drinking quite a bit of wine at dinner I went to a bar with a few colleagues. I was feeling good and stopped by McDonald's for a McDouble and carefully ate it on my walk back to the hotel, making sure I didn't get it on my suit.

It was the second last day of the conference and I had given an excellent talk and decided what the fuck, might as well keep a good thing going and maybe attend the talks a bit later tomorrow. I went to the hotel bar and ordered a Campari and Soda. It was the perfect addition to my booze and grease saturated stomach. I was chatting with some strangers and by the third C&S a very attractive woman in her late 30s (older than me) sitting a few stools over came over and asked what it tasted like. I flirted with her and gave her a taste and two hours later I was having a taste.

It was amazing and when COVID is over and conferences resume normally I'm going to start plowing pussy via the C&S opening move.

Plus any of the peated Scotch whiskys usually don't have an old cologne aftertaste. They have a whole different type of aftertaste.

Try this (pic) Ardbeg Wee Beastie.

And why have you recommended peat bombs when you know there's more mildly peated stuff, or even closer stuff on that chart? Bowmore or Highland Park would be closer. Or dare I say Talisker, which JWB likely contains?

dont know why but my dad bought this on his way home today. said he payed just under $40 after tax because it was on sale at Walgreens. we each had a glass. it does have a little smoke to it but to me it just reminds me of blackened marshmallows and roasted peanuts. smell and taste both no more than a 5/10, about as light as my Bushmills 10 and absolutely abrupt finish due to the proof. watery mouthfeel and not even half as smooth as some of the bottom shelf 100 proof bourbons I've had.

try returning the bottle(tell them its corked and you shouldnt have any trouble). if they dont do returns or replacements try the distillery directly. or see if you can fit an old cork it the new bottle. alternatives are decanting or sealing the top with plastic cling wrap or even a plastic bag and rubber band

I enjoy Jack Daniel's especially after a tour of the distillery, all I taste when drinking it nest is charcoal and brown sugar. The gentleman jack is a great step up in showing off that caramel and brown sugar you get from the regular just more of.
I'd probably recommend woodford reserve, buffalo trace, Evan William's BIB or Jack single barrel and they'd be quite pleased. If you want to go above the mark, willet pot still, weller 12 (if its affordable), and Basil Hayden's are really good front runners for me.

Picked this up, I'm unimpressed. It isn't vile or anything but tastes somewhat off, like it was confused if it wanted to be smokey or sherried and sort of muddled itself into what it is.

The color sort of looked pretty deep, so I'm assuming caramel coloring. Not a deal breaker but come on...

Will not be getting anything from them for a while.

Well then, that one is on me. I assumed with a name like "Founder's Reserve" that it would be better than the regular 12 year double-oaked version.

Fortunately, I only bought the 375ml half-bottle of the Founder's Reserve. It's not that good, but its not the worst alcoholic drink I've ever drank.

One sip of Southern Comfort 100 and I poured the rest of the bottle of that dreck right down the fucking drain. A (almost) full 750ml bottle. Luckily it cost less than the half-bottle of Glenlivet Founder's Reserve.
