I loved fishing with my dad growing up, but always hated the taste of trout. I think its why I dislike most things from the water.

If you believe that then I would conclude you have never had good salmon. There is such a thing as steelhead trout which is practically salmon but a little milder in flavor, but rainbow trout is very different.

Great fish. Cheap, easy to avoid bones.

Pretty much every salmonidae fish tastes the same, the difference comes from it's surroundings. A wild Arctic Char from northern Norway's rivers is different from a farmed salmon. But still it tastes like salmon.

Also stocked trout is very different from wild trout. Both are good, just different and most people obviously prefer the non farmed, stocked trout. Fucking love catching trout.

Salmon is fantastic. Rainbow trout is also fine, but not all that similar. Steelhead is quite similar, less oily.

picrel is several salmons and steelhead trout, but none of those are rainbow. I'll post rainbow in a sec.

I think the white fishes taste pretty similar but tuna, salmon, and swordfish are more distinct
