I've lived in California my whole life and completely agree. Regional chains are usually better than national/international chains and In-N-Out is fairly average as far as regional chains go. In-N-Out only gets more hype than other regional chains like Culvers or Whataburger because California has way more pop culture influence than Wisconsin or Texas.

I like In-N-Out but if you go in expecting some super amazing burger you're going to be disappointed. In-N-Out is basically just McDonald's done right. I imagine the original McDonald's back in 50s or 60s might have tasted like In-N-Out. It's also dirt cheap which contributes to fondness Californians have towards it.
