I'm going to live in a solar power off grid home in the middle of the desert.

I was wondering what I should do for food and water in order to survive in the long term without any need for society.

I hope you find a well somewhere or a river.
Townsends does a good series of what people did back in the day to preserve foods.

Literally never going to happen. You're asking a fast food board on a Laotian Fishing Net trading forum for advice.

Why would you ever do that in a desert? Where do you think you're going to find a good, reliable water source in the middle of a desert? You can't even fall back on fishing if you can't hunt. You can't have a garden.

Hi anon, actual homesteader here to give you an actual answer
Expect to commit a minimum of 500-1000 hours of research prior to an endeavour such as this unless you're prepared to die or give up very quickly. You yourself are admitting to having no knowledge of survival, cultivation, self-sufficiency or otherwise. This is not something you can just go do like having mommy take you to the grocery store.
Will gladly reply to answer more concentrated questions, but will leave the following:
First, consider how big the earth is. You absolutely do not have to choose a desert - but you still can. Otherwise, investigate the following:
Aquaponics (esp for desert living) and hydroponics
- note: you are literally required to learn how to farm aquaponics if you are going to survive alone in the desert. not much way around that afaik. investigate and formulate the necessary materials to breed the fish required and start gardening today if you don't know how
Food Forest Cultivation (not for deserts obviously)
Regenerative Farming/Organic nitrate production
Gardening in general - If you can't grow food with 99% certainty it won't die, then you will die. It's simple as that
Learn to rear chickens. Being alone this should be all you need, but you could probably manage a pig per year and salt cure that in the desert with a proper setup

>what set up would I need to raise one pig and salt cure it in a barren waste land?
extraordinarily loaded question that only you can answer based on where you end up. you need to account for obtaining water (it doesn't rain more than 1-2 times a year in most deserts, need to have massive reservoir to capture this rainfall & need to establish some level of community supply chain to get water unless you're located by a stable supply)
as far as feeding animals go, you'll be growing the food, and need to account for the amount your animals will eat and then some buffer on top of that. again, you need extreme emphasis on an aquaponic setup to function in a desert. you need to be nearby a freshwater source, or establish community supply chain with locals. really can't emphasize how you shouldn't even be having this conversation with people if you don't know where water flows to in a desert, go read a few books on the subject and check out homesteaders in the area you're investgating, i.e.:

why do you keep saying community?
this is going to be a solo project. If I'm going to suck a guy's dick for water I might as well get a wage job and live like you robots.

You know, people who live out in the wilderness alone still trade with other people for their needs. One person might raise bees and one chickens. One will trade for honey and the other will trade for eggs and/or chicken meat.

you're sincerely delusional/far too sheltered to consider this a viable path
i'll consolidate any further answers with this: there is a reason people do not do what you are considering. with these responses, it's very obviously you are sheltered and quite likely privileged and live in comfort - you clearly cannot fathom or understand the effort and lifestyle change that comes with self sufficiency and survival/homesteading in general.
again, reread my answers. i propose community as a secondary answer in all situations. you're trying to figure out how you get your own water without anyone elses help in the desert? you need you make your own wastewater treatment (aquaponics) to reuse all water you ever obtain, and will almost certainly have to locate yourself in a lowland/basin and account for what comes with living on those lands
in short, the answer to all of your retarded questions is hard work. you need to work harder than you currently seem to understand, given that you can't even pick up the mouse to research it.

No, the guy's illiterate and retarded, like yourself. A community isn't going to appear in a barren desert just because I "need" it to. There's a better way, a solitary method to thriving in an endless sandy waste, and that's what I want help with.
