I lived there for 2 years and almost all the people I knew smoked menthols. my japanese was almost non-existent so i'd just ask the clerk to give me a pack of the most popular menthol or if I had a finished pack on me I'd just hold it up and ask, but there was like 5 or so types that seemed really popular, two of which were marlboro and idk the other brands. a lot of the menthol cigarettes were 'crush style' like camel crush in the US so they had a bead in the filter you'd pop. there were a lot of flavored cigarettes like that too, I had blueberry ones that were crazy good and some cherry, even one that tasted like chocolate mint.
