I hate chili because it was always served with cinnamon rolls when I was a kid either at school or home. It's such an awful combination it put me off both

>> No.16560657

Rice, obviously. Toppings are raw, diced yellow onion, shredded cheddar, and maybe fresh cilantro. If you're not serving it with rice you shouldn't be serving it with anything else; chili is a complete meal on it's own.

what the fuck.
a dash of cinnamon in chili can go a long way but what the actual fuck man...
that's like putting baked beans on top of an iced birthday cake

>> No.16560672

Any sort of carb will do you. Cooked and unseasoned macaroni with some shredded cheese gets you chili mac, it's amazing over a baked potato (or even fried potatoes or mashed potatoes), it's good with rice, it's fine with crackers. Chips are probably too salty but you could manage. I'd say MOST bread is probably the worst of the carb choices, with >>16560627 being the clear exception. A good buttery, savory cornbread with a hint of honey sweetness served on the side is god-tier.

>> No.16560678

>>16560660
You don't eat them together, lol. It was a thing with my midwestern school lunches too. The day they served chili they'd always give you crackers to go with it, you'd get your milk, you'd get a scoop of veggies, and then you'd have a cinnamon roll.

ah, that makes a little more sense and a little less sense at the same time if you catch my drift.
I'm sorry they put you through that, chili is one of my favorite things to make because it's so hard to fuck up, and also everybody likes it different (I like beer and a couple squirts of mustard and a dash of cinnamon like I said before)

To be clear, I'm not the guy that was traumatized it. I think places will get regional menus/ingredients from suppliers and come up with combinations that they almost always serve together. Like when we had chicken nuggets, we would always get scalloped potatoes with them (and wouldn't get scalloped potatoes on other days). Turkey was always mashed potatoes with a turkey gravy and green beans were almost always the vegetable on that day. *shrug* It is what it is.

>> No.16560759

>>16560733
yeah I remember something similar but ours were seemingly more varied than that. and we always had a choice of 2-3 entrees, I call them entrees but I'm sure they were just as shitty as anywhere else (square pizza and whatnot)
they had a ripoff McRib (Rib day) that was actually pretty solid and I'm almost certain it was the same "cut" of meat (manufacturer) the McRib uses
Virginia fag here (rural but very close to many cities)

>> No.16560776

>>16560759
For sure. I grew up in Idaho and we only had a single choice in elementary school. In Middle School we also got a slice of pizza + salad bar OR the picked entree, and then in High School there was both of those + a daily sandwich rotation with fries or chips you could pick from as well.

I don't know that we ever got a McRib lol. Not that I'm complaining, I've never been a fan.

It's not soup, though, it's a thick sauce that works well alongside rice.

>> No.16563784

>>16563760
I can understand not saying it's like a thinner, brothy soup, but it's absolutely not a sauce. Rice doesn't seem like it would be good at all with chili imo, rice works better as a side dish for a solid meal than as an absorber for a liquid dish. Have you tried it with bread? It would probably go well with a very dark bread. Maybe try that next time.
