I have about 15 chicken thigh bones in my freezer. Is that enough to make a decent broth?

yes but not a lot of it

I would save more before bothering, seeing as it has to cook for atleast 4 hours and straining it and stuff is a bit of a mission and you want to have the celery, onion and carrot too.

>> No.16524688

>>16524439
no, you also need meat

This. I recently tried to make stock with just bones and it ended up kind of thin and bland. You could still use the bones to fortify a stock but you'll probably want to at least poach some chicken in it first or something so it'll get some real flavor and texture.

>> No.16524742

>>16524711
I'll just throw a couple of thighs with it then

>15 chicken thigh
But why?

>> No.16524820

most stock follows a ratio of 10p bones: 5p water: 1-2p vegetables so while 15 bones probably wont get you much broth, could still be enough to use for a sauce though

>> No.16525297

Could I just buy a cheap rotisserie chicken and then throw it into the pot along with my bones?

>> No.16525323

>>16524711
All the body comes from the bones. It's a stock, not soup.

>> No.16525861

>>16524742

get a cheap whole chicken, you want the backbone. cut it up with a cleaver or shears. add that to your bones. the meat will be useful to transfer flavor to the broth as well.

>It all took place on a warm and sunny day when me and Dan were out at our cabin with all of our cats. Since we got so many cats I figured that I could shoot one of them so I released them into the woods and began the hunt. First I thought that the fat one, Gucci, would be an easy shot but she managed to escape surprisingly quickly. It was the sun that eventually was Iggy’s downfall. She is quite photophobic you see so she could hardly see where she was going. And BAM, easy shot for me. R.I.P. my little sweetheart.

It's more from the bits of skin/fat/cartilage that would still be attached to most bones. But when I did this I had roasted a chicken until it was tender and pulled practically everything off the bones so there was nothing to really give up any collagen to the water to give it some body.
