Walking to the annual local fair for lunch, what would you recommend looking out for?

>> No.16509446

Nothing its literally not worth it. Its a scam.

It's overpriced garbage, but I wouldn't call it a scam. No one is buying food there under the impression it's anything else.

By default I'll get a long corndog and a lemon shakeup, but might go for something oddball if it stands out.

The only real investment is the time, gas, and for ones at the state level there is possibly an entrance fee.

If it's anything like the Illinois state fair, it's good for some junk food, mildly interesting exhibits, and mediocre rides. I'd say it's an interesting way to spend an evening on that alone.

Still walking btw. Nice day.

Wound up getting a "pronto pup" with a lemonade shakeup. Battered on the spot, so pretty good for a corndog. Not worth $6 of course lol.
Will probably grab a pork patty for supper tonight.

fresh lemonade-shakeups are a real precious sense-memory for me. there's a level on which they're a pretty lame experience, really. But there's magic in there. I look forward to the next time I see them for sale in my vicinity. Looks great, God bless, enjoy your day out.

Went tonight to grab something before work, and as expected several more places were open.
A local pub was making crisps/chips and burgers. The chips were premade and average, but the burger was better than I expected for $4. Patty was closest to steak&shake or culvers, probably could've gone with a double given the amount of toppings. Going by price 8/10, probably only a good diner could compete.
Did grab some sandwiches for neighbors and a smoked pork steak sandwich for the morning, we'll see how those go.

What ever you do OP, if they have a free admittance night, don't go that night.

>> No.16514380

>>16514323
Every night is free admittance, since this is a two-horse town and I wouldn't be surprised if a quarter or more of the crowd would be turned off by even a $5 admittance. Also it's in the middle of town square, which is a pretty open space, so people could just jump it (and they would). Only the rides have tickets.

The most popular night is tonight since it is the night of the parade. I drove in today and picked a park about a km away that has an empty gravel lot, and by the time I got back 30m later there were people scrambling to park onto the grass. On one hand the town almost always has plenty of free parking downtown, but that also means that everyone and their grandma rushes into downtown in the last hour or so before the parade, and since people around here aren't used to city-like commute congestion it becomes a clusterfuck. If I wasn't working I would've just walked like yesterday.
