>is opening a british pie shop in the usa a good idea?
not if you plan on keeping it...America is a 3rd world country that allows blacks to burn down buildings whenever one of them is killed by a policeman while doing something illegal

Are british pies different from the various quiches and pot pies you can get at every california grocery store?

>> No.16440177

>>16440149
No, that wouldn't go over in California, or probably anywhere. I spent a couple years in NYC and there was a 'straya pie place that seemed to be getting a bit of hype. I tried it and it was extremely mediocre - but all the reviews from Australians said it was really authentic. Meat pies just aren't good; or at least aren't worth what you'd need to charge to make any kind of profit in places that are going to try a new British "food" place.

We have empanada and Jamaican beef patties, and I knew some South Africans who tried to get pie shops going in Florida, every single spot failed after a year, just never really caught on even though local workers were going there numerous times per week. You'd probably have to market it all crazy to the empanada and jamaican beef patty crowd too.

>> No.16440227

I wouldn't invest in a brick and mortar building until you build a following with a cart or something. meat pies can be good, but yours will have to be exceptional to survive (no one regularly eats savory pies here). But if you make some variety like buffalo chicken or barbecue bao filling along with more traditional pies I could see it working, though still more as a cart or as a gas station product.

>> No.16440242

>>16440177
God knows what they meant by "really authentic." The best pie in the world is going to be just as authentic as one filled with gravy and gristle.

>> No.16440263

>>16440149
Terrible idea. There is no market and you do not have the resources to convince a huge mass of people into creating a market. You’d have better luck literally with a cart labeled “pork” which sells smoked pork by the 1/4 lb. At least people will understand it and perhaps try yours, unlike british pies, which nobody understands (ok, I do, and like them) and nobody will try.

A whole restaurant would be way too risky, but I could see this working as a food truck in a business district during the day and a bar district at night. It could also work as a stand at a farmer's market that also sells them to be reheated. Though California probably isn't a great market for them, so you'd be best off selling them to drunks. A local bee keeper opened up a tea shop with British pastries, loose leaf teas, lattes, and the honey she makes. Very cute shop. Her front glass door got busted and her bolted safe got stolen during the Black Lives Matter riots. The store was only open for a few months

Amerifats only like fried foods with extra corn syrup.

California is healthier than the average amerimutt state, but that won't last long with fat ass spics flooding in from the south.

Your business will die in California, not fruity and progressive enough for their food culture

You know who appreciates bread and meat? The Midwest

Cost of living is dirt cheap and the minorities are respectable because our police aren't afraid to shoot, also, if you actually care about the craft then you want the best cuts of meat you can and that's the Midwest in America, get buddy-buddy with a farmer and you will never have to worry about low quality meat

Why not make some free samples for people and ask them what they think? I'd imagine it to be a tough market to crack because California is a hot country and pies are stodge for a cold country to keep you warm. Also, traditional English food is simple by nature and really requires good quality ingredients to stand out. Since industrialization the quality of the ingredients has taken a major hit and is only now starting to get better with 'regenerative' farming.

that one in costa mesa? yeah, it sorta ISNT authentic because an aussie meat pie is fucking crap and the place that was doing aussie pies were making them too good, but thats kinda besides the point. its gas station food, and its more of a nostalgia/comfort thing where you get it because your in a rush, or you have a freezer bag full of some cheap ones you heat up when your half black out drunk.
same with anzac biscuits. you go anywhere and its made really well with good ingrediants but a real anzac was shit made to be brittle and hard as kangaroo dick so it would survive military conditions. your SUPPOSED to leave those fuckers out so they reverse-stale and hilariously get SOFT and edible.

same shit with vegemite. its literally leftover beeryeast the military said "we need rations that have some vitamins. but we have nothing but garbage here, everything else is a vital resource. figure it out fucker" and we got black death on toast. which is good, but also besides the point, that shitll last in a cabinet 10 years past its use by date and not look a molecule different to when it started.
