Now that it’s summer, it’s time to bring out those gars to go along with the BBQ. Post and discuss pipes, cigars, cigarettes, hookah, snus, snuff, dip, etc.

Leaf by Oscar Sumatra - it was pretty damn good and I got to catch up with some buddies from the cigar shop that I hadn't seen in a long time.

Got off work 2 hours ago
Sunny day, nice & warm

Had a cool shower, changed clothes, made myself some tea and got my pipe & 965, smoked out there for a good hour, truly a great mental reset from the previous stresses of work

I normally get nicotine sick off of 965, but not this morning

great start, need to mow the garden then got the rest of the day to watch DS9, though I'm having some of my family round for a bbq later

life can be good sometimes

Something mild, flavorful, and available. I rec'd another beginner cigar a few posts up. I'd consider these "wedding" cigars honestly. You could set a box out an an event and noone would complain.

https://www.cigarsinternational.com/p/perdomo-reserve-10th-anniv-champagne-cigars/1412283/

Do a little googling to see if you can save a few buck off a 5 pack of them(I'll shill for brands, not vendors, don't overpay when a few minutes of searching will save money). Another great mild flavorful smoke are the Illusione Rothchildes, but make sure you snag the connecticut.

https://www.cigarsinternational.com/p/illusione-rothchildes/2006596/

Tips? Smoke slow. 2 puffs every 2 minutes. You're basically trying to keep the lowest temp possible without letting the cigar go out. The flavor is all from the oils released by the leaves. If you just ignite them, you'll taste nothing but harsh smoke. Sit down, relax, puff.

Very different, cigarillos have a 20-30 ring gauge as opposed to 40-64 on normal cigars, are machine made in a factory instead of hand rolled, and most importantly of all they’re made with short filler (shredded up) instead of long filler (whole leaf) tobacco.

That's pretty cool. It's always nice to meet the blenders and chat with them about their methodology in creating a blend, be it a cigar or pipe tobacco. Back in the day Steve Saka used to hang out at the JR tobacco I used to frequent and when I was in AZ I had the opportunity to meet and speak with Jeremy Reeves (Cornell and Deihl). I think you can gain a better appreciation of a blend when you know what the creator was trying to accomplish.

I'm actually trying it now for the first time.
After a 5 minutes or so it doesn't even feel like I have something in mouth. When I first put it in it felt "puffy" in my lip but it flattened down. No burning sensation like the other anon stated. It releases the nicotine rather quickly compared to how snus works. I have not tried snus yet but my understanding is that it releases the nic slowly. I'm a lightweight when it comes to nicotine as I am a pipe smoker and occassionally have a cigar. I got the 3mg Zyn for a little pick me up in the morning and so far it's great.

Depends on if you get white or original portions in my experience. White takes a lot longer to soak though meaning longer for the tobacco to break down and release the nicotine.
Original portions hit much quieter, like 5 min as opposed to 10-15 and peak earlier.

Asks for your DOB upon payment, as an overseas buyer it informs me that age verification is not required after I put in my DOB. I'm not sure if there's a further verification process for buyers in the U.S.
Maybe someone from the U.S who has bought from 4noggs can elucidate further.

cigars are inherently less addictive than cigarettes. nicotine by itself is not addictive but when combined with MAOI compounds like harman and norharman, which are also present in tobacco smoke and which are what give cigarettes their "kick", then the overall package is addictive. harman and norharman are 80% less bioavailable which absorbed orally and also have a relatively short half life (around a half hour, whereas a cigar gets smoked for an hour or longer, often) [1] so it stands to reason that people don't get hooked on cigars the same way they do cigarettes, and this mirrors what you see in practice.

Yes, the longer the stem the cooler the smoke. A lot of moisture can also make the smoke hotter. You can use a filter to help with that or use something like Nording Keystones. I do not like filters and use the Keystones. They work very well. They're small pieces of porous volcanic clay that you drop into the bottom of the bowl and pack the tobacco on top. They work in any pipe. They absorb moisture and do not affect flavor. They also help with a smoother draw since you have a little air pocket at the bottom of the bowl. And it cuts down on gurgle which is the main reason I got them. I highly recommend them.

I think most people probably throw them out after one use but I reuse mine. I reuse them until all sides of the stones are charred up and black. I generally get three or four uses out of them. If you decide to reuse just let them sit for at least 24 hours to dry out.
I clean mine but it isn't necessary. After I have a bit of used ones saved up I rinse them in hot water. I then soak them in rubbing alcohol for 24 hours (covered), rinse them with water and then allow them to dry. Any alcohol left on them evaporates within 24 hours.
They're cheap enough to not reuse them but I don't like wasting.
