I really like Brussels sprouts, but I also hate them because of redditors.

Brussel sprouts are GOAT tier veggies and someone disliking them is the quickest way to determine that the person is under 10.

It's July, anon. Also, Brussels sprouts are the best cabbage; most people just underestimate how much to season them. Blame your aunt, not the plant.

They're great and you're a child for disliking them. Make some on the stove if you aren't man enough for Aunt Jenny's frozen mushy stuff.

>> No.16433408

always wanted to like these. tried a recipe this month and they still tasted bad. oh well. at least i still have cabbage. cabbage is superior anyway. 50 cents for a whole head vs 10 bucks for like 20 sprouts

I did in fact hate these as a child but they grew on me over time and I find the taste appealing now. Not to where I can eat a bunch of them but like, a good serving of brussel sprouts would always go on my plate when given the option.

One of the only foods I've had the "acquired taste" meme happen to me with.

>> No.16433807

>>16433444
It's not an acquired taste, at least it doesnt need to be. Not when you can cook the bitter flavor out of it.

I get the cheap frozen ones in the microwave steamer bags

>Microwave the bag for a few minutes to steam it
>Chop the "mini cabbages" in halves
>Spray some oil and seasonings over it
>Put it in my air fryer for a 10 minutes to roast

Quick and easy side dish.

Just buy cabbage.

>> No.16433872

>>16433336
Why don't you like them? Bitter? There are non-bitter varieties you know. They tend to have two distinct types here in the UK: the first is like a mini-cabbage, dense and more sulferous and the second is more leafy and sweet. I love them, but have to admit they're not a very forgiving vegetable. You have to cook them just right otherwise they are mushy with bad flavour. I either char them, in which case they take a bit of time or keep em green by microwaving just until they loose that raw mustard taste (they should be vivid green). Done the second way they have a fantastic sweet taste and almost buttery.

I love them, but when I make them, it's just overkill at Christmas, with all the other choices that are traditional too, on the table at the same time, they get ignored.
I appreciate they are on some many recent restaurant menus, all crispified with a long roasting, tossed with things like bacon, cranberries, goat cheese. All is good.

Same. I'm sure they are going to be $5 a pound soon because of those faggots. They ruined ox tail, flank steak and chicken thighs.

Fry or roast them. Steamed is kinda meh.

>> No.16435369

Haven't tried to eat one since I was a child. Literal gag reflex, like that morbidly obese chick you see in that webm around here. I can do broccoli now but it used to be pretty bad, too. Cauliflower isnt too bad. I like that roasted.

The only reason people don't eat them is because they make you fart. Nobody wants to be farting at Christmas at Nan and Grandad's house.

>> No.16435435

These are fucking excellent, I always loved them and never understood the whole meme of people not liking them. I genuinely believe a big part of it is just that "brussel sprouts are disgusting" was a really common trope in American media for some reason.

They're amazing at Christmas just steamed with chestnuts. IMO they don't even need seasoning if you do them right. Maybe a little pepper or butter. Any other time, serve them as a side dish for pie. With steamed carrots

Don't blame people for their parent's bad cooking. If someone associates Brussels sprouts with an overpowering, vinegary, sour smell and flavor, that's not their fault; it's because they were served horribly-prepared sprouts as a child.
