Why do independent craft beers look like it was made by a bunch of Seattleite hipsters?

That's an Anheuser-Busch beer. They are not independent you dipshit. And most beers don't look like pretentious shit, pic related is independent and pretty good.

>> No.16412452

>>16412451
Just because they own it doesn't mean they control the original recipe or the way they operate. They simply own Elysian and get a part of the money. It's been virtually the same since they started but they're owned by AB. Stop being retarded.

So, it's owned by AB but it's also independently owned? Explain how that works

>> No.16412466

>>16412459
I'm not the same guy. AB does own Elysian but the way they operate has nothing to do with AB other than getting a part of the profit that Elysian makes. Stop being stupid.

Okay, so it's an AB beer since it's owned by AB. That's how it works you pedantic faggot

That's exactly what I saId. You wanna tell me that water is wet as well? Elysian's operations hasn't changed even by AB taking over. It's the same beer since 96 dummy.

>> No.16412483

>>16412476
Well, it has since they distribute more widely which usually means cutting corners and/or contracting out their recipe to be brewed in other locations. So yes the operations have changed. It's not the same local brewery. Stop being retarded. It's an AB beer and if they decide to, they will shut down the whole operation since they own your shit

This is a beer thread homie. /pol/'s over there, and /b/'s on the other site. Sometimes I have to pull employee bonuses out of what could otherwise be a six-figure income for me, but I've got a nice house, a stable job, and a wife that looks good enough that I think she could make a few hundred in tips a night, and I don't let a single person who works full time at this brewery make less than $60k/a.

Just in the spirit of moving this conversation forward (because it's been stuck in this loop since the second post) - What do you think of the artwork on this one? I'm seeing Seattle/Portland riffing on Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

At least they got the actual guy I guess... I don't know, man, I'm struggling here. As much as I do tend to drink local, what with running a brewery, and having a bunch of friends who do the same, we've all made conscious efforts to be a bit more streamlined with our logos and artwork. I think I'm the worst of the bunch - I rip off Lawren Harris paintings for the backgrounds of my seasonals. The rest of the bunch just kind of go with flat colours or repeating patterns.

60k to work at a brewery? Is that normal and how to get the job??

>> No.16414264

>>16414202
It is probably not normal, and everyone works for it. If you're here 40-50hrs a week, you're working 40-50hrs a week (minus breaks) - we have very few specialists - even our chief zymurgist/yeast whisperer is on our tasting panel, weighs in on packaging/graphics/font, and helps keep our books clean.
The bar staff is paid well for bar staff, but they rely heavily on tips to break 60k, but the bar is the source of a decent chunk of our profits... so if they're under, I pull from the pool. People worth keeping make beer worth drinking, and people worth keeping are worth paying.

It's also a fairly small crew because of these backward-ass policies. If we bust into another market, and have to get another kettle and tank, then we might have to hire another person to help mitigate burnout, as well as bring the part-timer up to full time (She's making 30k for 20h/wk).

As long as my people are well paid, I'll never be rich, but as long as the growth is steady, and the beer's good enough to maintain things, I'll never be broke.

Is it very expensive to live there??

>> No.16414296

>>16414282
I'm not in Seattle lol. I hear it's pretty stupid there - not quite So-Cal, but still a financial improbability. Living at the brewery costs nothing, but I really discourage it, despite having done it for the first 3 years when I didn't have enough staff to get it off the ground.

Yeah, nah, the beer's not free... you get it at cost, but it's not free, and you have to be sober when you work - mistakes can be really costly.
