>In observation-studies, we timed first-time tourists to find out exactly how long it would take them to discover the no-waiter-service rule. The fastest time - just under two-and-a-half minutes - was achieved by a sharp-eyed American couple. The slowest – over 45 minutes – involved a group of six young Italians. This group did not, however, seem particularly concerned about the apparent lack of service, being engrossed in a lively debate about football. Sympathy should go to the French couple who marched
out of the pub, complaining bitterly to each other about the poor service and British manners in general, after a 24-minute wait.

No. You better be providing a service like flashing your little kids tits or sucking on my knob for something. You think its funny or cool to expect something for nothing? Get the fuck outta here. I've had this go okay, mostly as the one butted in on- the social context varies but if you're on the patio or in a smoking area it's generally accepted that other people can interact with you.
People tend to get more gregarious as they drink, so if some drunken rando hears that I watched his favorite movie and gets excited, that's fine by me.

Never invite an american to sit at your table in the pub. My friend made that mistake last night. Some american sat at the table behind us and kept trying to join our conversation. My friend being the nice guy that he is invites him to our table. Big mistake. The man talked at us for about an hour before we had had enough. Just talking about random shit that had no relevance to what was previously said and would not let us get a word in. We tried to change the topic of conversation to something we could all talk about a few times. Every time he somehow managed to relate it back to him and would not shut the fuck up about himself.

What fucking bar in the US has the bartender come deliver drinks and take orders from your table? That's not a pub then, it's a restaurant. Everything else in this document is really just common sense: "dont shout at the bartender, dont be obnoxious" etc.

The only thing I wasnt that aware of was the "and one for yourself" rule. I've never seen my friends do this either. I guess I've never gotten fucked up at a pub here and I usually only go to one for a pint or a g&t and usually on a weekday afternoon rather than peak times. Is this more of a regional thing maybe? In Portsmouth at least, I havent seen this. I like the concept though as a form of tipping, but if since I've never seen others do it, like hell I'm going to start this shit with my obvious American accent and look like an idiot who read a 75 page document about pub etiquette and not someone who's lived here for 3 years.

This. I thought the same thing.
Any bar I go to that has tables doesn’t have table-service.
You order at the bar, wait at the bar, and the take your drink back to the table where your group is.
If you sit at a table and someone brings a menu and takes orders, then you’re clearly at a restaurant which just happens to have a bar in it.

Yeah I guess I don't have much to compare our drunken states to, having never got pissed abroad or with locals. I think that binge drinking is the only difference as I hear that continentals are more likely to have 2 or 3 drinks and remain content whereas out "night out" culture is founded upon the idea that you all must get as drunk as possible and spend the next day hungover which I've never been a fan of. I think 5 pints is the ideal number and to be drunk slowly over the course of a few hours, shots and other rubbish only result in you having an objectively worse time.

Yeah I struggle more with being an alcy when it comes to on my own and when I say 5 drinks is my limit, it is also where I aim to get, when I cease to care about anything and can enjoy myself doing fuck all and smoking like a chimney. I struggle less with self control on a night out, but struggle more with peer pressure as stupid as it sounds as a 20 something man, when everyone is else is participating in the round I often find it nigh on impossible to refuse.

Alcoholics are more annyoing than stoners.

>> No.16303711

Nah stoners think weed is a magical cure all and won't shut up about how everyone has to take it for literally anything
Point out that inhaling any form of smoke is bad for your lungs and weed causes anxiety and they sperg out
At least alcies acknowledge it's unhealthy

>> No.16303723

>>16303692
Having been both, I would say that stoners are more annoying but alcoholics are depressing and can be right cunts. Stoners as the anon before me quite astutely pointed out believe weed to be a cure all and some kind of god. While yes alcies know they are wretched degenerates that are coping hard.

>> No.16303771

>as the anon before me quite astutely pointed out
thank you anon
Also I would add that they tend to base their whole personality around weed, usually because they weren't particularly popular/cool at school and are fairly boring people and by latching onto a trendy drug they feel more interesting
When you're buying expensive bongs and taking pictures of cross-joints and shit past the age of 17 you need to assess your life choices

Absolutely, I also remember being about 15 and seeing dude weed lmao posts and seething over them because I genuinely couldn't comprehend that people existed that didn't think weed was the coolest thing on earth and something to brag about doing, I cringe in remembrance.

To be fair combined with the pretty much forced car culture and general lack of education +shitskins/trailer trash a drinking age of 16 would probably double or more the homicide rate and drunk driving deaths.

true but that's not really an argument that 18 is too young, and more just a sad commentary on the absolutely broken state of America

It's at things like this that I think about the impact of ones environment on how their life pans out, or is cut short. If I were introduced to alcohol at an earlier age I could have ended up killing myself or others, and this is what po' whites and nogs end up doing.

Australia. Popular in Western Australia mining towns like Kalgoolie. Me and my friends drove across the desert from Melbourne. Got into Kalgoolie, first decent town for 3000 kilometers. One of the bars they take articles of clothes off the more they get tipped through the night. We could not give a fuck it was so hot. All the money was for cold beer. They got real pissy.

In the US it was common to add ice to beer historically because of how hot it could get in the summers in some parts of the country. It was even seen as an attractive feature in a lot of towns in the South and Southwest because of how blisteringly hot it could get in those regions. It caught on through the rail as a serving style and "ice beer" became a common feature across the United States, since most of the country had at least a month of extreme heat. It didn't really die out until the later part of the 1950s, when electrical refrigeration had basically become ubiquitous.
