The beef industry is not "one of the big ones." Corn and soy have ravaged the environment across much of the country, whole species of insects, plants and animals are going extinct so we can grow soy and corn
>B-but it's for the cows!!
No it's for plastics, textiles, fuel and human food products. The only really "sustainable" solutions are to either limit the population, ration access directly or artificially thru manufactured demand, or make it possible for people to raise and grow their own food. We are doing option 2 at the moment because other options may result in Amazon warehouse slaves and other debt serfs leaving cities for more sustainable and satisfactory lifestyles.

Technology is one of the big industries destroying the planet.
Compared to properly acquired and packaged beef, impossible is awful for the planet.
Ingredients shipped from all over to a giant factory using tons of fuel and plastic. Like there is plastic being used for less than a pound of "meat"

Compared to a grass finished, rotationally grazed cow share, you really don't need much to raise the cow, and if its local the animal doesn't travel far to the butcher, and the meat can be wrapped entirely in paper, far more biodegradable than this shrink wrapped plastic shit. Finally, a single cow can easily feed a person for 4-8 years. The meat will stay perfectly fine in a freezer, or can be dried, cured, smoked, salted, canned etc, for even more staying power. Meanwhile you need to buy this impossible shit every time you go to the supermarket.

With some slight law changes we could have even more environmentally friendly meat, but no one wants to see eye to eye on how our governments are fucking us over in the name of capatilisim and profit. Divide and conquer, I guess.

fuck Beyond Meat and fuck cows. I bet you think cows are your fluffy little milk friends, ooh they would never hurt anyone, look at their big dumb eyes!!! WRONG. Cows are mindless killing machines. Given the chance they'd eat you, your children, and your children's children and still have space left over in their four (you read that right FOUR) stomachs. "B-but cows are herbivores! They just eat grass!!" Right, and I'm sure those horns are just decorative right? They couldn't possibly be for goring everyone and everything you know and love, right? Open your eyes.

my grandfather served as a cowboy, he told me the horror stories of his time on the ranch, of watching his friends get trampled under the merciless hooves of the cattle, of the sleepless nights listening to the distant moos, wondering if at any second a horn might pierce his tent wall. He died just last month of "lactose intolerance". Completely unrelated, I'm sure. Cows are not our friends. Eating them is the only way we can keep them at bay. Remember:

Western world meat production is so insanely efficient at what it does that there is zero way that meat alternatives could possibly beat it.

What do you think happens to all the byproducts from farming crops? They get fed to cows. You can't use them to grow meat alternatives. Cows eat all the byproduct shit that humans can't eat, and pump out fertiliser to use back on those crops. All that water activists say cows use? It's just fucking rain water that winds up getting pissed back out anyway. That land you can't grow crops on because it's all just hills? Put cows on it.

Fun fact, the US produces 18% of the world's beef but is only home to 6% of the world's beef cows. It's THAT efficient in the west. If cow farming truly is a problem, then it's the rest of the world doing is inefficiently.

It's kind of insane that wealthy people will pay mexicans to mow their lawns and trim their hedges once a week when they could easily pay them to manage a garden. Or *gasp* you could even do it yourself.

Also you don't have to be poor to be a farmer. Though idk how rich a lot of folk in the city are, most of them are in debt and don't own anything.

tldr: If you're a man and you wanted to play it safe, you'd avoid soy and other sources of xenoestrogens, unless they're so healthy that its worth it

It's currently unclear is soy is bad for men.
Basically, soy contains extremely high levels of chemicals that act like estrogen, compared to other fruits and vegetables.
There's some disagreement on how it affects human hormones, but there's some good evidence that it helps the symptoms of low estrogen, like in post-menopausal women, so I assume it increases human estrogen levels.
The male body creates and uses estrogen-like compounds, but having too much can have give you depression, erectile dysfunction, infertility, man-boobs (gynocomastia), and some other things.

The clear consequence of any system of morals that seeks to "minimize deaths" is the complete and utter eradication of nature. If it's wrong for humans to kill for their meals, then what of lions, eagles, sharks, who often deliver much more gruesome deaths to their pray than we do? And if you eliminate all predators, then prey populations will grow until their environment can no longer support them, leading to widespread famine and suffering. So they have to go as well. Leaving no one on Earth but us.

Would you also advocate for the annihilation of the human race as well, or are only animals worthy of being spared the pain of existence?

People don't eat 20kg of meat per week. That would mean they would have to eat almost 3 kilos of meat per day. I could see a really big person eating 3 kilos of meat in a day maybe, but they would get sick of it. A kilo of meat is anywhere between 3200 and 5000 kcal.

Keep in mind you can actually get away with eating that amount of beef in a week if you ate 2-3 cows per year.

I'm going to have to disagree. It's impossible to control disease and especially parasites in wild game, and some of them can pass on to humans. One of the biggest advantages of farming is that the animals can be closely monitored for illness and have a diet of uncontaminated food. Just look what happens in China when you still have a culture of eating bush meat.

If you can't suspend your morality that much, then yes, that would be the best option. Hunting your own game is still a great option, but it's still less safe, and doesn't taste as good, and in a world where people are doing stupid shit like washing their chicken breast, it's better if the general population does not have access to it.
