I bought some marinated nameko mushrooms from a russian market on a whim, and they're fucking great with booze.

What else should I grab next time that hits a similar spot?

Anything salty will do it. Pretzels, chips, salted nuts (I like the spicy cashews from the bulk section), but I'll also eat green olives with pimentos or garlic/jalapeno, baby dills, giardiniera mix, or pickled jalapenos. Some of it you have to be careful with, too much of that acidity might make for tummy troubles depending on how much you're drinking.

Bonus points on the chips if you make homemade salsa roja or make your own bean dip with some hot sauce and a can of refried beans, plus you avoid the like 1000% markup of canned bean dips. I can take a $0.70 can of refried beans and add some diced jalapeno and a few shakes of whatever hot sauce I feel like and it'll be more than twice as much dip as whatever $4 6oz. can of bean dip they're shilling in the chip aisle.

Olives (going to want to go for quantity over quality here), 'chovies. Salty stuff with strong flavor goes well with vodka.

Sometimes I'll get some soju and stop by the Korean market so I can hit up their prepared food section for some jjapchae, kimbap and a bigass container of kimchi that the vendor makes herself. I recently tried green onion kimchi and it was shockingly aggressive.

I'm going to hit up H Mart the next time the mood for kimbap strikes me so I can see if they have a more varied selection than my local Korean market. They have a fried chicken place in the food section that's supposed to be great.

Actually it’s pickled garlic with some shiso and bonito.
But it’s seriously damn good. I wouldn’t have thought eating literal cloves of garlic would taste great until I tried this.
