the only note i put is "dont ring the doorbell" because i hate the sound of doorbells and so far every driver has followed it

i am a recovering food addict and ordered food multiple times per day last year, 5 days a week while at work. at most, 1 in every 5 drivers would read the notes i left detailing where to meet me to deliver the food. 2 in 5 would call from an alternative entry to the work address attempting to delivery it to the other side of the property and i would have to explain to them how to get to me. the rest would just pull up to the guard booth and ask what to do there, because they clearly hadn't read the notes but were at least capable of following basic directions.

i got banned for complaining to uber too much so now i just bring food from home.

Other than a valid drivers license and a vehicle there are little to no requirements to be a delivery driver so you can imagine the kind of people who are going to show up. People who cant get real work really dont give a fuck about you or your food

Almost no one ever comes back from that alone. It might be humiliating but if you have a friend/family/lover that you can talk to and see if they are willing to be an accountability partner for you. Go on walks with you and keep you in check so you don't fall back into bad habits. Basically you have to change your entire life. You can't just say you won't eat chips or drink soda for a while. Your body won't let you half ass it. You have to cut all that shit cold turkey and go through withdrawals. If you make it past that without slipping you might start to feel like a person again and it gets bit easier. You aren't alone brother I am in worse shape than you. I lost the best years of my life to the drug. But we can't let it beat us forever. Never give up and keep pushing yourself. If you slip don't let it lead to a crash. original anon here- therapy was a big help for me. not so much for addiction issues but for the overall mental health picture. I have IBS, and getting that diagnosed was another big trigger for me because I went on a low FODMAP diet for symptom relief and it was immediately helpful.
A really big thing for me was calorie counting. I started with just my TDEE for maintenance of the weight I was at and slowly lowered it into a 500 calorie deficit. I don't put much thought into the actual food beyond it not triggering my IBD. I do still have some issues with binge eating but the coping skills I learned in therapy are super helpful for that.
If you can't afford therapy, check out cognitive behavioral therapy techniques and try them out at home. It's basically just logical thinking applied to your situation in a positive manner (e.g. instead of "I'm already fat so I might as well eat an entire pizza" you say "I like to eat a large amount of food so I'll have a big bowl of noodles and broth with lots of veggies to help fill me up")

i'm a driver for food delivery apps. A lot of times, the menu item being requested isn't the same exact thing you expected to receive because the menu may have changed. There may also be additional options to your meal that you were unaware of at the time of ordering. Plenty of times people order fucking steaks and don't specify how they want it cooked. If it's an asian place, I need to know if you wanted steamed rice or fried rice, asian hair noodles? etc.

I'm not a food handling expert so I can't exactly open the box to make sure they gave you the right thing, I can only count the boxes to make sure it looks right. Also mind you, I can do no wrong. One app that hired me told me I can never be fired for any mistake whatsoever.

As a driver, I expect the customer to write down explicit notes on how to deliver to their specific apartment. You don't realize how frustrating it is to deliver to apartments until you actually work for the apps. Apartments weren't designed for food delivery or mail delivery people to navigate. If it's night time? Fuck you. Delivering to apartments is like walking into a maze of uncertainty, and you don't know when the fuck you're coming out of there.

My worst experience delivering groceries from HEB was when I entered the largest complex I've ever been to at night, and it was raining on top of that, plus it was a lot of bags. I kept driving in circles calling the dude, and I wasn't sure if this complex was upstairs downstairs or town homes. After about 40 minutes of searching for this fag, I threw in the towel and took his groceries back to HEB. That complex is a nightmare for drivers.

And if you ever order large bags of dog food/packs of water, i'm not taking that shit up 3 flights of stairs for you. i'm leaving that shit on the 1st floor beneath the stairwell you fuck.

It was a standard multi-building complex.
They literally drove a couple circles around my apartment complex, and then magically marked the food as ‘delivered’. Thankfully, I was promptly refunded each time when I contacted customer service.

Like any such complex, the buildings had letter designations. And each building had a huge letter sign with directed lighting. And each ‘road’ on the property had signs at every intersection pointing to which road led to which building.
Yet the drivers couldn’t find building “K” despite arrow signs pointing to K, and each building having a fuckhuge illuminated sign with its letter.

on the app your instructions should say something like "Enter gate, take first left, go all the way down straight to the blue dumpster and we live on the left bottom floor."

The first time I used doordash was January 2019. I was watching the map or got a notification saying he was almost here so I went out to wait by the front door while half dressed. Left my phone in my room thinking I didn't need it.

Guy's sitting in his car for like 5 mins and I go get my phone. He had called like two dozen times (was on silent) and I called back and it sounded like he was on the phone with someone else as I could hear two voices in the background in some clearly african language. Was only him in the car from what I could see (he was parked at the end of my driveway too, didn't even pull up closer).

He finally talks to me and at this point he's been sitting for like 10 minutes. Broken fucking english he says to come get the food. Mind you I'm half dressed and did I mention it's winter and this was in new england? The driveway was clear and it was dry pavement anyway, no snow for a while. He doesn't understand me at all so I open my door and look like a fucking retard trying to wave at him to come to the door. I'm a lazy fatass and no way I'm gonna get dressed for this fucking guy and walk my ass down my driveway when it's probably 30F out. i drive and i've gotten really good at knowing which vendors have delivery bags that you can sneakily steal food from and those you can't. covid has been a blessing and a curse for me. good because now so many new vendors are offering delivery and i've gotten to try new foods i never would have tried before like indian for example. bad because now a lot of the containers are "covid proof" which doesn't mean shit because i always lick my fingers after i snack to keep them clean and still manage to touch all the containers.

when i deliver for doordash, i always go up to the counter of whatever restaurant i'm delivering from, take like three or four bags of food that i'm not supposed to deliver, and keep them for myself. the restaurant is forced to make the food again, they don't track stolen orders nor people that steal them, and the delivery drivers that i took the bags from (before they could arrive) have to wait another 15-45 mins per order or forfeit the order completely, eliminating competition for drivers while keeping demand high. i then wash, rinse, repeat for other orders or orders from people whose food i took from other drivers and receive larger tips for actually getting the food there in timely fashion, unlike the original drivers. plus, doordash allows you to stack current delivery orders, so i can chain together like five or six orders at once and make roughly $5000 a week on ripping off other drivers.
