Does anybody have any ideas for how I could make fake edible cd discs or vinyl records?

A fake cd disk or vinyl record that looks convincing on camera. For a joke.

Odd idea, however, I would make something akin to a simple syrup and cook it down more until slightly thick, then pour it in a mold and wait to harden. I'd mix in food coloring as well for the properish color. Bam, theoretically you have a disc shaped food item that can easily be snapped or destroyed for laughs

Hey there friend check out this compact disc and vinyl set I bought new in The Year Of Our Lord Jesus Christ 2021 (Two Thousand and Twenty One) I truly cannot wait to experience them my friend, but what is this *nom* it would appear I have eaten my compact disc, what say you? A ha ha it was but a jest, a comedy disc my friend.

you can make fake glass just by cooking sugar, it's the same they use in movies.
try searching for the exact recipe on YouTube or something.
then you can add black food dye for vinyl.

You're not going to get a convincing replica of the shiny bottom of a disc but you could have a cake shop print out a label for you on edible paper and stick it to a candy disc.

He might if he buys that spray can sugar shine stuff, he would still have to dye sugar black to the hard crack and cool it in a disk of the right size. Though CDs would be trickier to do the underside of maybe goldleaf if he wants pay for it. Also look up Isomalt OP it's needed to make sugar glass and alot of anons here just aren't mentioning it, without isomalt you end up with rock candy not sugar glass

There's a reason candy thermometers clip to the pot to constantly monitor temp, bro.

by shiny bottom I mean the rainbow shimmer of the data layer, there's no way you're going to be able to do that and still have it edible.

Oh I know that can't be done closest I would think is either silver or goldleaf just because it's shiny and maybe edible glitter to make colored lines but it would clearly look fake either way and you still can't make it actually reflective edible mirrors just aren't a thing that exist the spray glaze was to add sheen to a vinyl mock up that might be a bit easier and more achievable

choose a edible transparent medium that can be shaved thin and have the silver leaf beneath?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsDnkrDvkBo

there are options depending on how realistic you want the final product and your budget

You could actually replicate the shiny rainbowness by casting candy/chocolate onto a diffraction grating.
There's a dude on YouTube who's done it with chocolate and it comes out surprisingly well.

The same frosting used on glass cake can be used to make the 'shiny' side of the disc.
