i bought these because it can grind large quantities of salt or pepper very fast, and can add small quarter-turn grinds with one hand. Ceramic grinder has not rounded down, and it grinds salt a little fast for the table but just warn guests that like three rotations is a teaspoonful.

salt mills work better in theory than in practice. It's pretty hard to properly adjust the coarseness of the salt and they tend to clog

Peugeot makes the best pepper mills, but buy a standard one, not the ones with the "u-select" mechanism. those are a bit tricky to adjust.

>>16129183
You mean you do recommend a big grinder for that purpose? Anything specific? I currently tried to put them in a regular peppercorn grinder but they don't grind at all, they're really big and hard. They just bounce around and don't go down into the grinding teeth. My current method is to put them in a plastic bag and smash them up into smaller chunks with a hammer before putting them in there, but it's annoying and makes a lot of noise

>> No.16129727

What's difficult about the u-select? I dislike mills that adjust with the top screw since they always come loose, but I've never had a nice one like that and avoided it on the peugeot based on that.

>> No.16129778

>>16129727
I don't know if they improved it in the meantime, but I bought one of the very first u-select models like 15 years ago. you can't actually adjust the setting as easily and smoothly by twisting the base because of the peppercorn still in the grinding mechanism opposing the movement (especially when you want to tighten it for a finer grind). I actually prefer the classic models even if the top screw comes loose every now and then.

>> No.16129841

>>16129727

oh, and the u-select models have both the twisting sleeve AND the top screw to adjust the coarseness.

My only advice is to buy one that's long enough to easily fit both hands, I bought a small ish one (~6 inches long) and really couldn't twist it because I was holding it with one hand and one finger of the other hand, really fucking annoying so I just tossed it. The one in your pic would suck ass unless you're a child.

It's actually pretty good for the price. You can adjust how fine or coarse you want the pepper. The mill is actually some kind of stone.

Will get another one for salt next time I go the store, and some others to give as gift.
