Further oldfag contributing. They made New Coke first, then decided to make Diet Coke based on that flavor. Coke Zero is the Real Coke in diet form.

>> No.16112301

>Early 80's, Coke is pressured to release a new diet cola to compete with Diet Pepsi
>Coke formula made with aspartame tests poorly, so Coke uses a modified Tab recipe with aspartame instead of saccharin
>By 1985, Coke is rapidly bleeding market share to Pepsi, thanks largely to popularized taste tests and Pepsi's aggressive marketing toward youths
>Coke realizes Diet Coke is out-competing their flagship cola, and reformulates the recipe - replacing the aspartame in Diet Coke and adding sugar, naming it New Coke
>In 2005, Coke again attempts to make a diet cola that tastes like Classic Coke, and succeeds with a mix of sweeteners, naming the drink Coke Zero

tl;dr New Coke is Tab with sugar

not. at. all. Your tastebuds suck.

The point of New Coke was to taste as sweet as Pepsi, the perceived biggest competition, who's only difference from the original Coca-cola, was a more prominment sweetness.
The corporate *rolls eyes* fgenius that tried to rebrand coca-cola's logo and flavors was actually fired. It wasn't long before the original coca-cola made a comeback.

Think about every person who has ever represented Pepsi in a commercial or had their sponsorship, they were hispanic and black, from Michael Jackson to Beyonce to social media stars like the Kardashians. You know none of them are really preferring Pepsi, really, if they even drink soda at all. It's just the masses. Coke ads are quite different, to say the least.

For decades, the only country in the world outside of the US where Coke outsells Pepsi, was Venezuela.

It was like coke but if you somehow added a tiny, tiny bit of liquid sad. Before this "new coke" shit coke tasted like fun. It never completely recovered. It's still a tiny bit to citrus.
