Have you ever noticed that the best pickles come refrigerated in this plastic tub? Anything you buy in the warm aisle at the store, they're all soft and just taste like vinegar. I guess when you keep them cool they maintain a fresh flavor and a more crisp bite.

The "half" is the shape I least understand the need for. If you want them as crisp as possible, get the wholes and eat them like that or cut them yourself. If you want them cut then get them cut, it's worth the time savings to go for the quarter cuts or thin lengthwise slices or the pickle chips. But what do you do with half a pickle?

I've gotten really into making quick pickles over the past few months. It really is pretty easy. Making the brine only takes a few minutes and it's not like it's time consuming to wash and slice cucumbers. If you're somehow buying pickles by the barrel, sure.
If you're buying commercially pickled cucumbers in jars at a supermarket where the products are stamped with their country of origin and have spend nearly a year sitting in a warehouse or on the shelves, no.

Pickles might seem to "last forever", but the mass produced trash is volatile in the sense that you can't reliably sell a product that'll explode in a couple months after being sealed.
