Do you like to give complicated orders when you go to fast food restaurants?
Last time I was there I said "Um yeah I want a Big Boy hold the dunions with a Mighty Man's fries and for my soda just give me the Old Standby and a 20 hit combo on my Clucker Bites. Uh, just between me and you I would appreciate some extra Bumberton's Delight if you catch my drift."
They did not like that.

I give normal orders at restaurants and the staff there are too brainless to follow it properly, does that count?

Stuff like: No "dressing on my salad", or "give me a hashbrown" is one they find especially tricky.

Complicated orders go directly against my own interests.

The people who might work at a fast food restaurant are the dumbest people in the city, if I give them a complicated order, I will inevitably get something that I don't want.

Therefore I describe my orders as I would to a small child, so that they can understand and give me my tendies without any problems.

and on and on it goes. I don't know why they're like this. Every fucking time, though.

that's not a fast food joint if ur ordering like that. there is a menu behind the cash register or at the drive thru. you pick what is listed on the menu. some places have auto order systems.

so u can pick a menu item and add stuff like ketchup or mayo or extra patty or extra cheese or something. even ask if they can put half sprite and half pepsi or something like that.

drive thru: hi welcome to mcdonalds what would you like
me: ill have a hamburger with no pickles, large fries, 6 nuggets and a large diet coke
drive thru: *repeats it* anything else?
me: thats all thanks
drive thru: would you like me to put it in a meal so itll be cheaper

you're correct, and it's been a long time since I ran a window but you're also both decreasing a store metric when you remove items you've already input (which is a shit system since idiot ordering take back shit or say shit wrong constantly), and there's also a metric that incentivizes combos/etc as on the whole those are considered upsells. so even if you sold, say, every item in a wendys 4for4 individually 50 times, while you'd make more money, your upsell would be lower than otherwise, both because you'd have less 4for4 sales compared to nearby stores, the combo is considered an upsell, I guess they've figured on the whole more people get a combo as a 'oh it's cheaper' but you're still spending more than you would because you probably don't need a 1400kcal meal even once a day, whereas if you just buy individual 4for4 items they're just small items, unless they're talked into upsizing those it's taking away from your upsize quota, it's basically a lose/lose situation. additionally they always told me to ask "medium or large?" when someone orders a combo, basically implying small doesn't even exist, about half the time when someone was asked that they replied "does small not exist...?", and a shockingly large amount of people would reply that it doesn't matter... I'd 99% just ask, decidedly different from instruction, "would you like to make that medium or large" instead, which worked well and wasn't a shitty devious way to try and scam our beloved retarded customers. anyways all our metrics basically work to fuck you over one way or another unless you're one of the top 5% earning district stores, and even then they're the only ones receiving the labor budget to allow for that success. remember to rate and subscribe.

Curious: I usually abuse the apps to order. Especially in recent years all their "coupons" have been through the app readily. I'll use McDonald's specifically as my example: I often make 2 orders (since it's 1 coupon per order), one right after the other. I usually end up with a decent quantity of food for like $5CDN. So far they've usually figured out it's all one person and everything's served to me effortlessly. I've never had anyone mention anything, but that doesn't mean much.

Do you know if this is particularly annoying? Does this reflect poorly for the store? I don't care if I'm somehow abusing corporate for like $3 off but I would feel a little bad if it fucks up employee/franchise performance by jewing in this manner.

>> No.16035339

>>16035295
so I left right before the apps hit us (thank god), I'd imagine for the people serving you it's not annoying, just a normal order, if anything a little easier since you don't have to deal with lemegetuhhhhhhhh shit, if you're not literally bug abusing the app it's probably minutely subsidized by corporate and still a positive in the system since they've figured they get people to make a visit to the store that would not have otherwise be made, justifying a tighter profit margin; this is also often a way of getting people 'in the door,' so if you get a, idk, fucking burger for half off but still piss away money on a fountain drink that's at most 30 cents to them, that will recover whatever the coupon lost. this is astoundingly common but people are just so mentally absent they'll go somewhere for a deal and then just dropping money like it doesn't exist on dumb shit they don't need. lastly it's also competitive for them to even offer coupons in the first place, since as long as one restaurant has any similar deal that specifically attracts customers, that's their entire market share until you decide to compete with it

Well I KNOW it's annoying that I use the curbside pickup, but that's only due to covid where the only alternative is picking it up in drive thru. The couple times I've done it through drive thru (after ordering on the app) I just got the feeling it fucks with their flow even more than having to walk out to my car.

They've never fucked up one of my mobile orders that I can remember, so my assumption there is that the machines printing the order receipts and the cooks are less inclined to fuck ups than the ESL working the till.

Having said that McDonald's in my area at least seem on top of their shit. Burger King has been a nightmare the last couple times I tried it, same with Wendy's. They don't see nearly as much traffic and I honestly think their employees are just somehow worse at their jobs. Orders wrong, takes longer, food's cold.. It's mostly a convenience thing for the undereducated staff. They put the numbers on the signboard for that reason since most earlier POS stations/registers didn't have fancy displays and were basically just "push the 1 key for this item, push the 2 key for this item", etc. Rather than having the new staff spend half an hour scouring the keypad for a specific item, they gave all the major commonly ordered items and combos a number and programmed the machine with it.
