16014322 No.16014322 [Reply] [Original]

Is there a difference in the meat from animals of different sexes. I spesifically wonder if there is more testosterone in meat from oxen as opposed to cows. Will female meat make me more feminine and male meat make me more masculine?

I know it sounds far fetched, but surely there must be a difference?

>> No.16014337

>>16014322
I doubt it. But I only eat the males I raise due to females being useful for eggs/milk/breeding. Females also socialize better whereas males are incredibly aggressive and will attack and kill everyone if there are too many

Give him a break. There is no reason for city folk to know the proper terms for cattle.
Calf: bovine under a year old
Bull: male with testicles, used for breeding
Steer: young male without testicles, used for meat, or undergoing training to become an...
Ox: adult trained to work, usually male with no testicles
Heifer: young female that has not been bred yet,
Cow: female that is been bred, kept for dairy and/or continued breeding

So yeah, the vast majority of beef comes from steers.

there is a ratio to available genders and not to mention for livestock usually only one or two of the same gender is on the farm and the rest are opposite genders. depending on the meat probably less likely you are getting female or male.

hormones in meat does not effect human hormone levels that's from imbalance due to irregularities in blood and levels of different substances in body and sleep cycles.

To add: neutered males gain weight faster and their meat is more tender. Males need to be kept from the herd to prevent inbreeding. Applies to all farmed animals not just cattle.

Female meat is rarely available for human consumption. It's usually considered unfit since it comes from old cows that no longer give enough milk. Usually their meat ends in food for pets.

I know that hoopties flivvers and whips are all urban names for cars, but fuck if I know how to differentiate them.
I’m sure I could find out with a quick google, but why? When I hear someone mention one my brain just translates it as car.
A city boy would know that bull steer and cow are all bovines, but their brain would just translate it as cow.
I know when a city boy is talking about a vehicle.
The city boy knows when I’m talking about a source of beef or milk.
Communication is achieved at an acceptable level for both our needs.
If either of us want more detail, google exists.

Not your fault. Hollywood probably messed up your perception.
When you see an ox drawn cart or farm equipment, unless it’s a historical thing, chances are it is set in Africa or Asia or something.
An ox is a bovine trained to the yoke, it can be used as a catch all term. In the US or Europe that will most likely be male castrated European cattle, but outside of the west anything goes.
Pic related are Water Buffalo.
Some places use (not American)bison, buffalo, or even yaks.
Lots of species in the Bovine family have been partially or fully domesticated and trained to pull. If you can put a yoke around a bovine’s neck and it will follow basic commands without killing you, it can be called an Ox.

It's not legal to do it by yourself since it's "animal abuse", but who's going to check? And the only alternative for them is death, anyway.

Yes, but magnitude of difference depends on animal and depends on if the males were castrated. Taste and tenderness is different. I eat wild game and wild male animals during mating season have a very strong smell and taste that many people find off-putting. Young female animals are best for eating.
