15997236 No.15997236 [Reply] [Original]

Had my first day at Dominos pizza yesterday and I'm already considering quitting. I had never worked food service before and let's just say I was not prepared for how unprofessional my coworkers would be not to say how disgusting most of the customers are. Having to wear a mask in kitchen whose conditions can only be described as suffocating was miserable. If I didn't have to find "some" job in order to make the minimum payments on my $80k in student loans I would have already quit. Any tips you guys use to make it through the day?

Start working on content marketing and apply your degree. You can bill $25-150 per article at an entry level, depending on word count. Learn WordPress. Use those skills to eventually market yourself into new trades. There are few projects worth joining that will not have a hiring manager respectful of and envious of sharp content creators that write relevant topics.

If you focus your hobby time on /fit/ and /ck/ you won't have to worry about money. You can bring people together with your cooking and you'll be more attractive. No matter how bad it is put a financial plan together even if it means saving $5 a month. You want to learn the skill for when that number begins to rise. If you do this you will be better off than 99.9% of this entire website.

Dude i worked as a delivery on domino for 8 months. My last day was this Wednesday. It's a crappy deal working there. Managers only make $8.50 where I live. Minimum is still $7.25 over here. Lots of responsibility. I learned basically all the positions except managing. It's a very stressful job for someone who is easy to make mad after lots of stress. I'm grateful for them teaching me how to make pizza and because i made lots of cash on tips. Had somewhat fun with coworkers at least. Good luck. Don't get super stressed. try to think about how the skills you learned with your degree might apply outside of just libraries, in my example i was very experienced at reading and analyzing long boring documents so now i do that professionally. you could probably do the same thing, build up a portfolio of sample work and try to get a paid internship at a business somewhere. you're not automatically locked into library sciences just because that's what your degree is in, unless literally all they taught you was how to re-shelve books.

I'd generally recommend the opposite; if your studies are actually worth doing then don't work - you're investing a stupid amount of money into having a degree, don't fuck it up by working for peanuts. It's a fun quirk of bottom tier labor being worthless, and education being hilariously inflated.

>I can't get a job with my degree
Do you live somewhere where your field exists?

You're already in for a penny, why not go get a masters?

Point blank, most debts are effectively capped by income. So, having 5x the debts you have now is meaningless. Besides, you can't really out budget or out save poverty - you must increase income to meaningfully acquire wealth. Budget niggers are generally poor people being retarded.

>Why do this?
To be frank, you shouldn't, but if you're working at a pizza joint you generally have bigger problems. If they're federal, just put them on an income contingent plan after being as negligent as possible - you will realistically NEVER pay this debt off if you don't earn more money.

We should be able to afford smartphones and computers even if we received higher education, without needing debt, if we otherwise made reasonable financial decisions and work full time.

It's nonsense that cost of living has risen, pay for executive class of business execs, board members, venture capitalists has skyrocketed and otherwise wages have been more or less stagnant for decades.

If that is what we can expect, then I don't have any stake personal stake in maintaining free market dynamic. Let the government step in and redistribute their money to me. Don't buy me an Xbox but pay my housing, education, and healthcare. If they don't like it they can adjust salaries across the board to what they should be given decades of productivity increases, and then continue to raise them in direct proportion to further productivity increases. When that happens, I will stop requesting their wealth be further redistributed.

Anyone working on a CS degree should look into bioinformatics and computational biology. High throughput sequencing, transcriptomics, proteomics, and gene ontology studies all need data processing on a massive scale. More data is being produced using RNA-seq than can be interpreted in the studies employing it. In particular, if you can write an application that allows biologists without a CS background to easily sort through massive datasets, you'll have it made.
