is there actually coffee that tastes good black or is it just something people pretend to like like straight liquor, IPAs, and cigars?

>is there actually coffee that tastes good black or is it just something people pretend to like like straight liquor, IPAs, and cigars?

It exists but you have to put effort into finding the right one for you, most people just find it easier to dump cream and sugar into it.

>Straight liquor
Blanton's straight is the nectar of the gods
>IPAs
Fuck IPAs and the hipsters who promoted that shit, I've had upwards of 50 and the closest one to 'barely passable' was $25
>Cigars
Cigars are delicious but it takes a considerable amount of effort and money to find the ones you like. I've smoked probably 100 different brands from $1 to $25 and I've liked 3.

Coffee dulls the tastebuds, affecting the taste of all foods and causing the drinker to continuously seek strong, deep flavors such as more black coffee.

The natural flavor of coffee is amazing to me. I feel like adding cream and sugar to any coffee ruins it.

Why take something so natural and healthy and turn it unhealthy with sugar and sweets, it baffels me that so many people add shit to coffee

I'm not a coffee nerd. I get the cheapest bulk preground at the local store. I don't care what roast it is. I brew 5 cups in my drip machine in the morning and pour 2-3 in my mug. I pour some water into my mug to cool down the coffee so it doesn't burn me and I can drink it right away. I don't put anything else in my coffee because I could care less. I neither like nor dislike it. You have to remember that coffee is a drug. It is a very good drug, probably better than any other drug you could take, but it is not meant to be celebrated or dressed up with extra ingredients, or obsessed over about exotic beans roasted to perfection and brewed with a fancy machine. It is a tool to be used to help you with productivity. Nothing more.

Does espresso count as black coffee?
If so then yeah, I love it
I fucking hate diluted coffee or coffee with milk in it or coffee that isn't hot

>> No.16001966

Either grind it fresh yourself and brew it properly, or spend a buck fifty and get it from a chain.
Instant is shit and pre-ground is sub par. Neither will ever be good black.

So I used to drink it black when I was in college because with no car, acquiring creamer would have been a giant pain in the ass. During that time I got used to it that way and liked it, although its definitely an upgrade to go to half and half. Yes, I think hipsters who insist on drinking it black are just fronting so they can say so

>> No.16004201

if you want black coffee that actually tastes good you need to buy a 1zpresso grinder, a v60, a electric kettle with temperature control, a scale that can measure to 0.0g, and a bag of single origin beans from a specialty roaster

you can sub out the v60 for another pour over with a paper filter if you like but I have black coffee this morning that tasted like whipped cream and strawberries

>> No.16004403

It's just about familiarity. If you drink nothing but black coffee regularly for several years then that becomes what coffee is 'supposed' to taste like, and you get used to it, and in time sweet/milky coffee tastes weird.

Like at work they only have folgers, and they only have nasty dried creamer. I got used to drinking folgers black because I needed the caffeine (started at 5am) and the creamer was gross.

Now, after 11 years drinking 3-5 cups of black folgers every day, it's the only kind I can stand. Like all other coffee makes me gag a little.

Straight liquor, IPAs and cigars all taste good though. As does black coffee. IPAs however are the most inconsistent with quality due to the American distortion of the beer market and how every small time brewer made overskunked IPAs using increasingly funky tasting hops.

Almost everything in your palate is the result of circumstance and repeated trial of things you haven't developed a taste for until you finally like it.

>Well I tried (new food) for the first time and loved it first shot!

If there's ever a new food/drink/whatever that you've tried and you liked it immediately, it's because it's similar in flavor/texture to something you've already acquired a taste for

Turkish coffee is best coffee

Overly Bitter or sour coffee is what a lot of people are used to, and that is not enjoyable at all. But smooth, well balanced coffee is good black.
