>brother buys a cast iron pan from walmart
>cooks chicken breasts in it an somehow manages to build up a bunch of blackened crust half a centimeter thick over the entire face of the pan
>leaves the pan to sit for a week
>i go to town on it with soap and a rough scrubbing brush to get all the burnt on and rusted crap that's stuck to the pan so it can be used again
>bro sees me as i'm doing this and cries about me ruining his cast iron pan because i'm using soap and scrubbing on it

why are cast iron people this retarded

>> No.15998943

You fucked up his seasoning. If I were him I'd have taken the handle of the pan and fucked you with it.

You can use soap to clean your cast iron pan retard, it was only a problem decades ago when household dish soap contained lye, which is also why dishwashing gloves were a thing as repeated/prolonged exposure to lye will eat through your hands. Thats why its used to dispose of bodies.

Hot water, soap, chainmail scrubber, then dry it out. Theres no need to be some reddit tier soyboy fag when it comes to cast iron.

your cast iron will rust if you scrub it with soap. it will take the seasoning off. I did it multiple times when I was a kid doing dishes and didn't know how to wash cast iron.

Then you must have done something wrong, I use dish soap, hot water, chainmail scrubber and then dry it off every time I cook with them and its never damaged the seasoning. Only thing I do is use more fat than I would with another pan.

>>15999083

Again, dry it off and store it properly and rusting wont be an issue you colossal moron. I made shakshuka (an acidic dish) in mine this morning and not only was the seasoning undamaged, but everything slid out perfectly. Then I cleaned it as above. Thats how I always do it and mine never rusts or needs a reseasoning, it sounds like you’re just an idiot who can’t take care of a hunk of metal.

You're not supposed to make acidic dishes in cast iron, it leeches metal into the dish and does microdamage to the cookware.

People get extremely retarded about cast iron pans. I remember one anon describing how his dumbass boomer dad had a cast iron pan with a bunch of burnt caked on food and he never washed it, saying the caked on burnt shit was "seasoning" lmao.

>> No.15999248

i have Wash mine with soap cuz i don't have hot water installed. I immediately put it on the stove after I thoroughly cleaned. Let the heat dry it off and put some oil on it again. I'm curating it right now in my grill. Well it's curating them. I bought the three set on walmart that comes with medium and small skillet and a double sided griddle.

>> No.15999304

A lot of people buy cast iron for reasons that don't have any basis in reality, it only makes sense that they wouldn't have any idea how to treat them. I used to live with a guy who insisted on using my cast iron, I guess because he perceived it as manlier than my standard cookware (he didn't own any) but he'd just leave that shit sitting in the sink. He did the same with an old wood handled carbon steel kitchen knife and also didn't understand why I got mad when he used my kitchen shears for cutting random shit. Something he only did because his dumb ass broke my scissors and replaced them with dollar store crap that couldn't cut anything.

People are fucking stupid.

with bare cast iron it's easy for the pan to become too hot and to burn the shit out of everything
