15934559 No.15934559 [Reply] [Original]

I just had chicken fried steak, brocoli, mashed potatoes and fried apples. Just like my grandmom would cook a big meal for me, exhausted from studying, and I would eat and fill my tummy and go right to sleep, with grandmom's warm glow and warm food still in my belly. CB gives me that same exact feel, I'm going to sleep right now, with that warm comfy in my belly, and I'm crying.

I always think cracker barrel is pretty subpar but every time I go there I enjoy it. Chicken n dumplings or chicken fried chicken with some extra dumplings and hashbrown casserole is amazing.

Bob Evan's or Howard Johnson's? Waffle house but with southern staples I guess.

It's basically just a chain version of any southern greasy spoon diner. If you like a big plate of bacon, eggs and a side of grits it's pretty good. The few southern dishes they offer like country fried steak and southern fried chicken are decent as well. Not as good as a nice mom and pop diner, but blows the fuck out of places like denny's and waffle house.

Denny's maybe, but waffle house is literally a diner that operates without specialty dishes and at a lower price, so I wouldn't even directly compare them.

Most local diners are cheaper/better than a Waffle House, though

My Grandma loved Cracker Barrel.

There are people who go to their local Cracker Barrel but there's a big chunk of the Midwestern contingent that knows there's a Cracker Barrel every few highway exits. I therefore also associate it with travelling.

I've eaten pretty much everything on the Denny's menu. I've eaten at Waffle House quite a few times (used to work next to one). Cracker Barrel has been the most consistent 'quality' (for a chain) and portion size, for the same price as the other two places. The country boy breakfast with the steak is always good, but the steak is typical shit quality and weirdly chewy but the flavor is always good and is a decent size.
Iunno. Cracker Barrel is good.

Let's just take a moment to remember Cracker Barrel has rocking chairs for sale out front, a gift shop, a community checkers board, a fireplace and a free to use IQ test at every table. Lowest score is an ignoramus.

Rarely eat out, but:
>Cracker Barrel
Mostly older couples or families with kids
>Waffle house
Truckers, nightshift workers, the occassional drunks/druggies, and other mostly nondescript single individuals that may as well be anon

Not sure what case you're making unless you're just saying that more normal/well-to-do people eat at Cracker Barrel. Which isn't surprising, since CB is more of a sit down social space like Denny's, and WH is more like a traditional diner where people just go there for a decent (if unhealthy) warm meal.

Not him but I'm in Florida; I guess we're not "the south", but, everything is just cooked in bacon grease (literally, they scrape the flat top into bowls and ladle it when cooking) and is otherwise flavorless. Honestly, Waffle House is fucking disgusting. It's greasy, that's it. No flavor.

If you mean it's full of blacks, I believe you but it still doesn't change my point unless other bottom-barrel diners that compete on price aren't appealing to poor blacks as well.
Plenty of the people in the Midwestern diners are black too once you get near urban areas, because that's where they live.

I'd have to say Dennys is my place, but I did go to CB in Georgia when I was on my way to my next duty station and had a bunch of nice white people fight over who was going to pay for my food. I didn't really make it a habit to eat in uniform, but I spent years in other places and the only time it ever happened was in a cracker barrel.

I still remember asking for the check and the waitress saying the bill was already paid. Asked by who so I could thank them and she said basically half the restaurant split the tab, so I gave her a $20 tip and thanked everyone when I stood up and then went to the worst base I've ever been on in VA.

Its one of the better interstate-exit restaurant chains you can go to. Its nice to have a reasonably priced warm meal in a comfy atmosphere if youve been driving I-95 for 7 hours. Plus you can stretch your legs a little looking at dumb shit in the gift shop. Theres one in my town and I have no idea why people go there if they arent travelling. Its always slammed

>> No.15938088

Where I live, we don't get much in the way of chain restaurants. It's not like we are on any major roads.

A few months ago, one well known sandwich chain was advertising for someone to open up one of their restaurants in the next town over. I was curious if anyone was so incredibly stupid as to take them up on that.

Most of their business would come from the local community. Maybe if they were on the highway going along the side of town, they might pick up a few customers driving through, but that highway is still pretty local.

So if they bought into the franchise, they would have to pay franchise fees and fix the place up to the specifications of that franchise. They would have to buy their product from the franchise instead of getting it fresh at the local store. They would have to live with the advertisements from the franchise that are aimed at big cities. And after a couple of weeks, everyone in the area would pretty much know whether or not the place was any good -- the chain's name wouldn't matter at all.

If you want to open a restaurant around here, your best bet is to open it under your own name. Buying a franchise won't accomplish a damn thing for you.

>> No.15938112

>>15938088

Also, if you buy a franchise, that means that you stick with the franchise menu without being able to adapt it to your local area.
