>do your best to remove the copious pulpy jelly
>the seeds will be covered in a membrane that stops them from germinating
>you can sit there and individually remove the membrane with the edge of a spoon or some such if you only intend to plant a dozen or two

>put the seeds into a cup, little dash of water, stir it all up
>put a paper towel or something over the top and rubber band it to stop spores and buggers from getting in there
>let it sit on your counter for about 2 days
>mild fermentation will take place, do not despair it will still smell just like fresh tomat so there's anything gross happening you messed up
>the fermentation breaks down the membrane making it easier to remove
>remove the now thickened slurry from the glass and put it in a sifter
>run it under water and use a spoon or something to agitate it and most of the jelly will fall away
>your seeds are now ready to be sneeded

>arrange them on parchment paper for about 3 days to let them dry and save them for next year by storing them in a paper envelope
>once seeds have been sneeded they need to be feeded
>can use a plastic egg carton with holes punched in the bottom for drainage or jus buy a baby plant starter holder thing

>keep it moist and let it grow indoors for a number of weeks until you have some nice lil sprouts going

the fermentation process is what removes the gel. It's sort of like a time release capsule

if the ground conditions aren't good the gel wont ferment and therefore the seed wont germinate
this is done to keep the seeds viable so they can just chill surrounded by their protective jelly for a number of years until conditions are good enough to grow
basically nature is using the mechanism of fermentation to detect whether or not soil is rich enough to grow the fruit

I’ve sowed another tornado plant ten days ago. Picrel has one row of tornadoes, one of bell peppers and another of cabuci pepper or whatever it’s called.

I realized they are leaning, but the cats dig on my seed tray if I don’t keep it indoors. I hope the plants don’t get too stressed. The seedlings appear to be healthy so far.

Not pictured are peas, mini cukes, and dill that I also started.

As much as I think this guy is an autist fag im gonna defend him in saying the reason supermarket tomatoes suck isn't because of the variety per se, but because they are picked generally before they are ripe so they don't go bad during transport.

I have saved my own seeds before but not tomoatoes, its too much work. I prefer saving squash and radish seeds. My sunflower also naturally reseeded itself and has sprouted. Too bad the sprouts are being predated...

I would think so. I am growing a lot of varieties they sell at the store, like cherry, roma, and beefsteak. There was a substantial difference in flavor when I let the tomatoes ripen on the vine vs picking them green or yellow and letting them ripen off vine.
