Its salty, melty, and creamy in the best ways possible, and has a distinct flavor. It just so happens that it's cheap and not exactly something that you'd wanna pair with fine wines... but that doesn't make it bad. Like any ingredient, american cheese has it's uses and shines in certain dishes. My favorite uses are in macaroni and cheese sauce or on a simple burger.
