>different types of glasses for different types of beers
What a fucking scam. Who falls for this shit? Getting a good glass like a snifter is nice if you want to drink expensive beers and get the most out of your experience, but why the flip would you need one for each style?

Different widths and shapes will affect
1. Amount of foam
2. Amount of gasses released by the liquid (smell and to some extent flavor as well)

Darker, richer beers tend to benefit from wider glasses since more of the deep aromas will be released giving it a more full flavor, while weissbeer is usually served in a tall, long glass to keep the beer fresh under the foam and to help keep it cold. I used to work at a wine bar were we used 9 different glasses in total, it really does make (a slight but noticable) difference

Also just because you don’t know why something is done doesn’t mean its bullshit.

Is someone forcing you to buy all of them?

Something like an IPA glass is designed so that it actually warms while you drink it so you can taste all the hops, if that's what you're into.

Something like a Belgian flute glass helps retain the carbonation in the beer.

Something like a Teku is ideal for 'tastings' because its shape (similar to a wine glass) helps direct all the aroma so it's easier to pick out things.

Don't think you need one of every glassware type, it can become excessive.

For me, if you have a Teku and a Schooner then you're covered.

I own plenty different shapes of glasses, but never bought one. Always got them gifted from my family, neighbours or barkeepers. I'm still mostly using a pils tulip, because it just looks and handles the best.

The only glassware you _need_ is a pint glass (for beer, pop and water) and a coffee mug (for coffee, tea and milk). Add a bowl, plate, knife and spork and you’re all set.
