What's your point OP? Most wine in Italy is also under €10. Sometimes you can buy very good cheap wine, by that I mean €3 stuff, but it takes real trial and error, with the common side effect being left with a shitty bottle of wine. Usually stuff starting around 5€ is at the worst usually decent. Best wines not only cost a little more than that, but also require knowledge of the vineyard it was made in and of the grape. Sometimes even the year matters. I personally don't give a shit about wine competitions as some old boomers sniffing their own farts don't seem like expertise I need on something as highly subjective as wine. There are surely bad criteria anyone can agree upon, such as bad aftertaste, alcoholic burn, etc., but at the end of the day your ultimate judgement will be going off of fundamental preferences like sweet vs dry, richly bodied vs light, etc. It's only wine at the end of the day. More often than not it matters more with who and when did you enjoy it. They used to buy nebbiolo around here just by going by the alcoholic % in big barrels. Surely it was good, but in my experience only Americans and Brits like to larp wine as something more than what it is.
