>micom/fuzzy is where the biggest difference lies though, and typically isn’t present in foodservice models.
Foodservice models are typically used at full capacity, every batch.
The cook can dial in the ratios.
This variety rice, measure so much rice, wash this way, water to this line, go.
They can adapt the batch recipe to the machine to get consistency and quality.
Batch done, pull rice pot, drop into matching warmer, start next batch.

Home users benefit from micom because it adapts the heat/time to the varying batch size and rice type.

If you plan on making rice regularly for more than 3 people, a 5.5 cup ("10") size or larger is suggested.
I had to upsize from a 3 cup when person #4 turned 3 years old.

As to the naysayers, there is a reason why PID type controllers have replaced the "bang-bang" temperature controllers in industrial applications. Micom offers that sort of non-stupid heat control to rice cooking, and it really is better than the $20 thermostat. It switches off the heat just before the pot goes dry, instead of just after... so less scorched crispy rice at the bottom.

IH should offer few advantages at 3 cup ("05") size, but is probably very noticeable at 10 cup ("18") size.

If you aren't making rice 3+ times a week, learn to measure and bake it in a toaster oven.

>imagine buying a $200 device to do what a $5 pan can also do

A $5 pan doesn't do shit by itself.
You need technique and ability.

The rice cooker requires much less technique and ability. 2 scoops rice, water to 2 line, push button.
You can spend your time studying rice and attending its cookery, or you can buy a machine that does a very good job and spend your time on more important things.

You're not paying the extra $195 to get a better pan, you're paying the extra $195 to get back 30(+) minutes of free time for every batch of rice. At minimum wage, that rice cooker is breakeven at a year with 1 batch a week.

>that rice cooker is breakeven at a year with 1 batch a week.
and realistically if you're spending $200+ on a rice cooker, you're eating rice far more often than that.

I paid $255 for my rice cooker and I eat rice 3-5 times a week.

Whatever kind the chinks import en masse here. Cant tell you the name desu I just know what bags to get at the chink's. Usually its thai rice grown in the battambang region. Most of the time we buy broke grain. Its actually pretty nice. Slightly sticky with a nice chew. Very different from the slop they feed euros. In a completely different category from whatever the fuck that is. Uncle ben's is a fucking disgrace. If you've ever had quality basmati its less perfumed less dry and chewy and a bit stickier. Basmati tends to not stick at all when this kind can have a couple grains stuck together. It's THE nigga rice. Every west african knows the rice I'm talking about and its the taste of africa. You can visit africans who live abroad and they'll have the exact same kind because there simply is no substitute.
Some old folk there like it overcooked until it starts to form little balls of stuck rice. I think its fucking awful and no one but them do it that way.

Neat. I don't come from a rice culture but when I do make it, I tend to make either something approximating sushi rice or Indian style saffron rice with basmati. I haven't had a ton of African food, but I did have some jollof rice homemade by a Nigerian once and it was pretty good shit

Very time consuming to make and definitly requires the right kind of rice. That guy wanted you to eat good. We have our own version here made with special smoked and dried fish cooked in the sauce. Stuff is completely illegal everywhere but where its made and the only way to get it abroad is to get it smuggled or have connections. Honestly in my top 10 of fish related foodstuffs.

If you want to try an african rice dish the easiest is probably yassa. Goes well with basmati.
You only need lemons onions (a lot) bayleaf mustard 4 chicken drums or thighs chili and 1 or two stock cubes.
The trick it to let the onions marinate with the onion chili and mustard to kill the acidity and bitter compounds. Toss the chicken in there while you're at it too and let it marinate for a day. You need about enough onion to fill 3/4 of a dutch pot when sliced and the juice of two lemons. Add a tablepoon of dijon mustard and two tablespoons of oil and If you want extra taste add cumin tumeric and a litlle bit of fennel. then leave to rest in the fridge for a day.
When you cook it first scorch the chicken to get a bit of color but dont cook it all the way. Then set aside and put the onions lemon bayleaf and stock to deglaze the pot. You can add a bit of water if its overly thick.
By the end it should have the consistency of something between jam and a sauce. Once the onion is nearly melted lower the flame and finish cooking the chicken.
Voila ! Serve on top of rice and be satisfied ! Don't hesitate to have an heavy hand with the chili and spices.

Neither is, like all weapons they're more contextual than general. The concept of general-use items is modern, before the factory system all objects were of a bespoke nature. In this case the primary context is armor and the resources used to make it, Japan is a very iron-poor island, they get their iron from iron-rich volcanic sand that while plentiful takes three times the amount of fuel to turn into steel. Consequently metal items were of very high value, and as such metal was generally not used as armor, naturally leading to a strong preference for more gracile weapons intended for injuring flesh and cleaving or piercing lacquered wood armor. In Europe, however, iron ore was plentiful and combat therefore took place in the context of thick metal armor, naturally leading to a strong preference for heavier weapons that could penetrate the armor or, more likely, simply knock the other person flat on their ass. Real combat between these two styles would see the samurai in defensive retreat whereupon they would begin to rely on tactics like night raids, attacking civilian infrastructure and burning crops to win through stealth and attrition.

Oh and you're probably understimating human mobility in full or field plate, yes, dark souls ass rolling is entirely possible and probably got used a lot.

I don't know why I wrote that but it was fun. Anyway I do have a zoji, it's old but still works perfectly. It's most useful feature is that it keeps the rice warm and does so with a very precisely calculated gentleness that lets it last as long as possible without ever being lukewarm. It's a good buy if you eat a lot of rice, I guess?

I really enjoy this timeline, where the simple subject of cooking rice can generate autistic screeching from 2 opposing camps: one that has a machine, and the other that doesn't have a machine.

I, for one, am thankful for late stage capitalism's ability to make everyone into a mindless drone that can't understand that people do different things differently and that's okay.

Do you like cooking rice on a rice cooker cooker? Great.

Do you like cooking rice on the stove? Great.

To be fair, it's only one camp that's being antagonistic.

No one with a rice cooker is telling anyone here it's impossible to make rice on the stove top, simply that a rice cooker does it better, and with zero effort.

The stove top morons on the other hand constantly attack someone who buys a rice cooker because CLEARLY they obviously just can't figure out how to cook rice in a pot on the stove.

Posted almost an hour apart and it's far from the only post in this thread "reddit" spacing.

Also, reddit spacing is a meme to call out newfags, there is no such thing as "reddit" spacing since it's been done here on 4chan (by me and others) since before reddit even existed as a website.

it's just called formatting and style. And I personally prefer larger gaps so it's more readable instead of a massive wall of text.
